Mod, game, and texture pack locations in MT and forks

So, I am working on a Java MT Package Control, which of course will feature a DB to browse(sqlite), but should also allow the user to install mods/subgames/texture packs/minetest forks.
Where are mods/subgames/tps installed to in(old MT) :
- Linux
- Windows
- Mac OS
Where are mods/subgames/tps installed to in(new MT) :
- Linux
- Windows
- Mac OS
and which MT Version introduced the change ?
Finally, I'd also like to know whether there are differences concerning those locations in the most popular MT forks.
