In Minetest 0.5.x, mods are stored in the .mods folder, right(on Ubuntu, at least).
But where are entire subgames stored ? I assumed in .<subgame-name> folders, as mtg is also in a folder named .minetest, but got no clue. Anybody knows this ? Thanks in advance.

Place the whole game into the games directory, just like you put mods in the mods directory. They were renamed from subgames to games recently, so don't call them subgames.

Re: Where are subgames in 0.5.x
Rubenwardy speaks in mysterious ways.
There are no subgames in 0.5.x because “subgames” have been renamed to “games”. It's that simple.
Anyway, the directory you're looking for is “~/.minetest/games” (which was always called this way, long before the name change). If this directory does NOT exist, you have to create it by hand.
Note this directory always starts empty as it only contains games you have manually installed.
The default games (Minetest Game and Minimal development test) are installed system-wide. Ask your package manager for a file listing to find the location of Minetest. The system-wide games directory is probably something like /usr/share/minetest/games.
Some wrong statements of yours:
Note that MTG is not special. For Minetest, it's a game like any others.

No, its ~/.minetest/mods.In Minetest 0.5.x, mods are stored in the .mods folder, right(on Ubuntu, at least).
Wrong again. There is NO leading dot!But where are entire subgames stored ? I assumed in .<subgame-name> folders,
No, MTG is (normally) not in .minetest, but installed system-wide (system-wide). You COULD however drop a copy of MTG into ~/.minetest/games but I don't know why you should do that.as mtg is also in a folder named .minetest, but got no clue.
