How to become a MT Contributor ?

I'd like to become a Minetest Contributor, on GitHub. So where can I find tasks which have to be implemented, preferably in C++ source ? Furthermore, it would be helpful if there was some starting point - it's hard to find one in that gigantic source...

EDIT : It seems help is needed reworking the networking protocol...

If you have a Issue, which you want to become real, you can create a PR.
You can also ask on the dev-IRC

Look through the issue list at GitHub, there's quite a few to choose from.
You can filter those by labels to see the 'high priority' ones.
