voxelproof wrote:Though the pond-like water reservoirs were regarded at first according to the programmer of the Valleys mg as a bug because their surface tended to be sloped and usually didn't resemble flat lakes, in "Heaven" tweaking this fault becomes (sometimes but quite often) a nice feature, at least on the flatter parts of terrain (lowlands and plateaus). The below examples demonstrate plainly that probably there's a possibility to apply this setting of mg parameters to greatly improve the appearance of water above the sea level.

The ponds on the screenshots are nearly flat and the last one is completely flat in its main part.

Thanks. This pack is intended for Minetest played mainly as a walking simulator, optionally for building. All textures are in 32px resolution but one for fresh water which is 16px.

The distinguishing feature of the "African" tweaking of mg v5 are sometimes tiny, but quite often very large stone bridges which add a lot of charm to these worlds.

I think it's just nice and curious. Rivers tend to form lakes in flatter areas and thus make pretty decent substitute for a proper lakes mod.

And something from "African" v5:

I notice that your places in Eden are always completely snowy. Because you are at y=600+. I suggest increasing your altitude_chill parameter to something on the same order of magnitude than your elevation.

I'm aware of this possibility. Recently I have very little time to play around with mapgen parameters, but I can imagine how "Heaven" tweaking might look like if higher mountainous areas had been brimming with trees and plants with moretrees and etheral mods enabled. One of the primary reasons I haven't explored this possibility yet is that I want to have clear long sloped stretches of terrain for... well, biking so far and maybe skiing in the future:

Btw the last picture of lakes is taken on a desert with a forest visible on the horizon. I like the peculiar feel of this world with huge deserted expanses of land: although the "inhabitable" zone is small in comparison to these desolate areas it provides the ambience of sort of oasis which harmonizes well with our evolutionary instincts.

I did the same modification in the core Valleys Mapgen (code: https://github.com/Gael-de-Sailly/minet ... vmg_canyon). I will make a pull request soon.

It's a huge improvement.

Meanwhile I'm still trying to unwrap the potential of the old version of Valleys:
