What do you mean by telegram? Is it a Internet messaging protocol? The name is really misleading...

Telegram is a messenger app, similar to Whatsapp, that boasts high security and stuff.
Telegram has a bunch of features like secret chats that self-detonate, automated bots, and other cool stuff.

I think that Telegram is great for this kind of thing, especially when considering that everyone in the group is technically a stranger.
I really hope this post gets more attention, since i believe this could be quite useful for all sorts of things.

Just imagine, someone is developing a mod, but is having issues. With a app like Telegram, it allows for quick, easy collaboration, boosting the chance that the mod development goes smoothly. In addition to that, since Telegram is a messenger app, its much more idealized for mobile devices, and allows access to the community much faster, since its not a web page with tiny reply boxes, like the website we are using now.
And Telegram can even be used to video call other members of the Telegram group, allowing further accessibility to fast, efficient collaboration.

And, its 100% free.

I'm pretty sure this post could be a TedX talk, but I feel the need to express my utmost happiness about the idea.
To think that everyone is confused and questioning the thread author's goals is terrifying!
So yea, I hope this brings some attention in so the Telegram group can thrive.

And obviously, its 100% free! So why not go ahead and join the group now?

Isn't IRC or Matrix better, though? This Telegram thing is centralized and seems kind of suspicious...

I think of Telegram, WhatsApp, and my personal favorite, the best, Signal as apps to message family and friends (similar to how you would use SMS or Messenger). They usually handle group chat too. But I generally don't like sharing my phone number with people from the Internet so I really don't recommend using these apps. Plus you run a risk of being targeted by scammers or abusers when you allow community members to be directly messaged through some of these services without proper community moderation.

For something like Minetest, which already has a bunch of different fractured communities, I just personally prefer IRC for chat. I think it works the best overall, with no nasty EULA (Discord) and it is an open and long lasting standard. I don't think noobies are very good at figuring out how to work an IRC client vs something idiot-proof (good UI) like Discord.
