I searched the map forum and was surprised to find only one short adventure map and a handful of parkour maps. Using mods, Minetest maps have the potential to rival MC maps, but their potential appears unrealized. Why is that?

there are currently ten parkour maps listed in the first four pages of the maps section.
I didn't count the adventure maps but there are several of those as well.
I don't really use maps created by others, Are these no good?

Maybe that's not exactly what you're looking for but you could be interested by the online server Inside The Box. It features 100+ short escape game/parkour challenges and you can also create your own.
