Posters?

I suck at graphic design. It would be great to have a set of posters like SuperTuxKart has: https://supertuxkart.net/Posters

Anyone willing to try their hand?

That's going to be difficult for a game engine.

Yet we manage to populate the main website and leaflets just fine

Technical details are easy to give in text form, but making an image which somehow describes the project's release is difficult with only technical details.

We could use assets from up-and coming games, although honestly I feel like posters should be for games and not engines.

I feel that the best way to promote the engine with posters would be to have several posters for several games, with a vaguely similar design with the Minetest name / logo at the top

One of the posters could be for MTG+mods, which is what 99.99% of the community uses

Yes, posters promoting the games is the way to go imo. A tagline like ”Powered by Minetest”, ”Built with Minetest”, ”Crafted in Minetest” (;D) or similar should help to convey the message.

Since I'am not good at making posters, here the GIMP-file, so you can make it better:

minetest-poster.xcf at Google Drive

You will need GIMP 2.10 or higher to edit the xcf-File.

I'm going to translate this real quick
One thing that would be good for such posters, is a common Minetest logo.
I've tried a few more things today, but nothing looked good in any way.
If someone of you is good at creating logos and titles, it would be cool if they could create one and put it under CC0.
I would like to replace the title of my poster in the previous post too.
Posters are a great idea.
I disagree with using 'Minetest' as big title for the posters. Instead, I would use the name of a game, server or big mod. I also like Texmex's idea of putting something like 'Powered by Minetest'
For the background I would put a screenshot or drawing that shows a distinct thing about how it looks or what can be achieved. (like lots of trains, a mesecons computer or a green spot in the wasteland of Hades) I think it's especially important that it doesn't look like minecraft.

As a footer I'd put information on where to find it on the internet and something like '100% Free and Open Source'. The '100% Free and Open Source' should definetely not be replaced by 'LGPLv2.1' because only nurds like us would understand that.

Maybe I'll actually do this when I feel like making something.

Yes, that would be so more useful. Advertising a game engine with screenshots/artworks from games feels weird. Advertising games and noting that they were made with a specific game engine is much more common.

I wish I had any kind of graphics talent … :(

Just a very, very quick, rough start idea (this was thrown together in about 10 min)
if you want to collaborate on something different, etc... just let me know

That would look really good with a little nodebox of the logo.

Napiophelios has one in his node abuse mod viewtopic.php?f=9&t=16390

This is so bland but, that's how ideas start (at least I tell myself that anyway)

Well, we don't have many recommendable games yet, to be honest.

And there's just too many rough edges surrounding Minetest itself and the various games. Many games, while having great ideas, are dead or broken or of low quality or just boring.

I wouldn't recommend into going full advertisement mode before Minetest is truly great or has at least some good games. While we could always grab some nice screenshots here and there, the screenshots will likely be lies that hide all the bugs in the game and Minetest.

I definitely would not advertise Minetest Game, as this is not really a complete game. It's more like a thing for servers.

Servers, on the other hand, seem to be very strong. We have some really good servers that are basically their own games in itself.

And Inside The Box is very strong. Too bad it's online-only. :-( ITB really ought to be turned into a singleplayer game.

I did end up feeling like making something. If anyone wants the gimp file, dm me. I think it's missing a few words on what mesecons actually is too, but making text look good is hard.

Sorry, I was too sleepy and forgot to write in english...
And I think, that with the names of the game in the title is a good idea.

------------

Hier my suggestion for a poster usable logo:
Image

And here my poster with Minetet Game logo, used in the game:

And here my poster with my new Minetest Game logo:

If you like the logo, I can make some fine-tuning...

I like that. Advertising should definitely stress the building aspect, since that's common to all the games. There's no point in attracting people who get bored with building -- they'd be happier elsewhere.

Some of these should mention the ability to create entire worlds exactly the way you want them. That's my favorite feature.

Yes, I understand that this was made in a hurry, but the I think that the addres should be https://www.minetest.net, not https//minetest.net

It's painfully clear that Minetest (engine) doesn't have its own logotype. No, a logotype is not the symbol, it's the "word image". I think Minetest needs a complete graphic identity. Anyone interested in this?

I use "Minetest" in Titanium Web for promotional materials

Could be done working some gears into the text, that might be sort of cool.
Or perhaps even creating an entirely new and unique font specifically for Minetest (which I have not done in a very long time cus, "font creation gets time consuming")

Dude?
This is the EULA for the Titanium Web font

(unless there is another one you are referring to?)
