Try MineClone2. There are also some servers running it where you may try it and play online.
A list of my mods can be found here.

If you like Minecraft play Minecraft, not Minetest. There is a clone, but why a clone if you can get the original indeed?

Because of the fact that Minetest is free and or open source, to begin with?runs wrote:If you like Minecraft play Minecraft, not Minetest. There is a clone, but why a clone if you can get the original indeed?
Re: How to make Minetest more like Minecraft?
Minetest runs better on my old laptop and i wanted to give it a shot. Thanks for suggestions.

Haven't heard more compelling reasons than that. hahatexmex wrote:Because of the fact that Minetest is free and or open source, to begin with?runs wrote:If you like Minecraft play Minecraft, not Minetest. There is a clone, but why a clone if you can get the original indeed?

Well, there go ~2 years of my life down the drain, lol.
Re: How to make Minetest more like Minecraft?
Don't feel bad! I'm, for one, very grateful for all of your work! My boy can play Minecraft on my Linux machine, and I'm also able to fulfill his wishes like "I'd like to have more ores, daddy!" There's no way saying how much I'm thankful for your work because that made my boy happy!Wuzzy wrote:Well, there go ~2 years of my life down the drain, lol.
Keep up the good work!

Definitely not, Wuzzy. And though I get the irony I'd like to let you know that I also appreciate your work very much :)Wuzzy wrote:Well, there go ~2 years of my life down the drain, lol.

And as far as 'compelling reasons' are concerned -- Minetest is much more a great sandbox for creators than one for common players. Of course the ultimate goal for each of their creations should be providing great, satisfying gameplay, but as a convenient testing tool very often it's just a place to experiment, prove-test ideas or just for having fun with implementing simple game mechanics. As such, Minetest surely is much better and easier to handle tool than Minecraft.

Keep in mind the question was:
> I want to make Minetest more like Minecraft
EDIT: That was directed to runs.

So the answer should be another question "what do you exactly mean?" ;)paramat wrote:Keep in mind the question was:

Re: How to make Minetest more like Minecraft?
Lol, I was kinda joking.
The real reason why I do MCL2 is: Because I can! Yes, it's that simple.
Maybe with MCL2 I will deviate more from MC one day. To be honest, I have been not too happy with the latest announced updates from Minecraft. Some ideas just don't make sense to me in my head. I think I shouldn't copy Minecraft perfectly, as Minecraft itself has flaws. I have dropped the goal of perfection a long time ago.
Instead, I rather try to make MCL2 stand on its own, and that includes gameplay tweaks. But remember MCL2 is still pretty buggy (alpha stage), so view it as a demonstration only (for now). But even after the deviation, I will probably leave the core ideas of the game intact.
That having said, I guess that MCL2 is still currently the closest Minecraft clone in the world, even if many things are missing and there are too many bugs. :P

I cant believe this discussion ...
But the answer is so EASY ! - Just play Minecraft and dont bring this free game into trouble by copying other games !
Sounds more like steeling other Ideas, instead of doing own ideas .How to make Minetest more like Minecraft?

But I wasn't :-) Your work is awesome! Thank you very very much!Wuzzy wrote:Lol, I was kinda joking.
It sounds like the fate of all proprietary software is closing in on Minecraft too. I've seen this so many times... First, there's a great application. Everyone loves it, it is easy to use, simple, perfect, but lacks some feature. Now there's two options: either the author hires more programmers, or the project is being acquired by a big company; either way more programmers start to work on it. They implement the missing features, everybody is happy. But then, there's nothing left to do but the programmers are still hired. So the application gets sideways just to keep all of them occupied. That's when the app gets bloated, complicated and full of unwanted features that nobody likes. This is unavoidable with proprietary software, happens all the time. And because it's closed, the end-users are completely at the mercy of those programmers who desperately try to hide the fact from their bosses that their job is not needed any more!Wuzzy wrote:To be honest, I have been not too happy with the latest announced updates from Minecraft.
This is why I believe in Open Source on the long run! Bugs or not, I'd rather play Mineclone2 instead of Minecraft any time! :-)
Cheers,

Re: How to make Minetest more like Minecraft?
What’s going on there? I am completely out of the loop with Minecraft (except for random “generic” building tutorials I adapt for Minetest). MICROS~1 fucking up once again a previously great thing?Wuzzy wrote:To be honest, I have been not too happy with the latest announced updates from Minecraft.
Re: How to make Minetest more like Minecraft?
By copying Minecraft you are not helping Minetest, but actually destroying it. People will never appreciate it unless it gains its own identity.

Re: How to make Minetest more like Minecraft?
I meant. Mineclone 2 is OK. Wuzzy did a very good job to clone it. It is free, open source, bla-bla-bla. It is one of the best Minetest Games out there indeed, because it tends to be the perfect copy of something that's already perfect. 0 originality too.
IMO, I would prefer play the original one. It is very cheap to buy now. It is "in" in 2019 again. It is one of the best games ever, Minecraft.
But I love Minetest too. When I play Minetest, I feel something different than with Minecraft. For me are quite different games.
