Players die with damage disabled? Here's how to fix it!

by Wuzzy » Post

Hello!
Have you always wondered why you suddenly start to die even when damage is disabled? This started to happen in Minetest 5.1.0 when you use the 3d_armor mod or a game that included this mod.

There's now a critical bug in the “3d_armor” mod which manifested itself in Minetest 5.1.0. The reason being that this mod deleted the “immortal” group.

Since 3d_armor is used in a ton of games, it means they probably got this bug with Minetest 5.1.0 as well. So all games that use 3d_armor require updating (see link above). Sadly, the patch is not included officially in 3d_armor yet.

This is very important, please turn this into a News posting.

Thanks for this notice, it allowed me to use the fork with the fixed version for my game. :)

I'm not sure if this is relevant, probably not, but when in 'fly' mode, with damage disabled I saw my player's character respawn for no apparent reason in one of my tweaked valleys worlds. However this was not an usual respawn: flying at the altitude of about 1000 character apparently flew into some kind of void (changing altitude to the sea level and waiting for indefinitely long time didn't make the terrain/water reappear) and the respawn occured after re-launching this world. However this happened in MT 4.16, I'm not sure if this bug can appear in the newest versions.

This happened when the player's character was within boundaries of the world, far from the edges. So far I witnessed this weird game behaviour 3 times, and only in one world (however I spent a lot of time there and this combined with low probability of such incident may be the reason),

Not a bug: a feature; you have just discovered Minetest's wormholes.

If I were you, I would put warning signs around that area, with this statement:
"WARNING: You are entering the Bermuda's Triangle, your ship/airplane might disappear and you could find yourself in another place and time."

Really? You're kidding... However there's something to it... My first thought, since it was a world which due to its overwordly appearance I named 'Eden', was crashing into some invisible angel ;)
