[Solved] How do I select which version during PPA install?

by GayJesus » Mon Dec 23, 2019 07:19

[Solved] I searched minetest 4.17.1 .deb and downloaded/installed 2 files in quotes listed below.
While still having 5.0.1 intsalled i ran the command sudo dpkg -i filename.deb on these 2 packages "minetest-data_0.4.17.1+repack-1_all.deb" and "minetest_0.4.17.1+repack-1+b1_amd64.deb"

Maybe I got lucky but I played on 3 servers and started a single player world with no problems.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:minetestdevs/stable
sudo apt update
sudo apt install minetest

This gives me 5.0.1 but I'd like 4.17.1 if possible.

Open your system paketmanager and search for "minetest".
When Ubuntu or Mint you can use synaptic. If no minetest 4.17.1
show up in your list then you need to find an other repository.
If it shows up select it after marking minetest 5.0.1 for deinstallation.
My servers: Jungle, Lilly in the valley, ZombieTest

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install minetest=<version>

If your repos have multiple versions, you can select the version with the above syntax. just tap "Tab" twice after you enter the equals sign. Otherwise apt will default to the highest version automatically.

Otherwise, yes, synaptic would be handy for this too.

I tried 3 distro repos and all only had 1 version );
But that's a nice command I never knew about, thanks.
