The Minetest android client sucks!

I am serious. It acts more like a wrapper for the pc minetest with controls substitute like single tap for left click double tap for right click. It makes certain things like holding right mouse button impossible. Also an initial splash screen would be nice. As for controls mods should implement separate touch control scheme but I do believe the lua api does not allow anything of that sort. What does the community thinks about it??

The minetest in android goes fine: it only needs a way better GUI more suited for touch screens than computers. If Minetest for android had a decent GUI it would be a way better game for android.
Happy new Year 2020: let's all aim finally for a clear vision of what we want to make of Minetest!

My experience trying to get it to work was that it was awful, broken, and unusable, and the solutions suggested here were no solutions at all. I'm not at all surprised the ad-infested forks are more commonly used, as they appeared to actually work.
It sounds like it's actually gotten better, but there's still a long way to go.

and if i play MineClone2 with the android port ... Minetest will crash after a couple of secounds
