Proposal: make Matrix official as much as IRC

Removing the bridge is totally doable, but keeping it makes sense in a situation where most of the real time chat already happened on Discord before the bridge was created. A split community isn't beneficial to MT.

+1 to have an official Matrix room bridged to IRC and advertised equally. Maybe adding a message guiding new people to Matrix if they know neither IRC nor Matrix?

internal sigh, matrix has almost all freenode channels bridged to matrix. there is a dedicated matrix room meant to be separate that is official and can be found at with all the other platforms at http://www.minetest.net/get-involved/

Where I just discover the post, the cons:

• the official matrix server may only be used from 16 years. Other providers are either unserious or completely blocked
• Setting up your own servers is difficult. It is possible, but you need your own server, and still knowledge of how to set up a matrix server (also only for users), which is very difficult.
• With IRC you can publish logs. With Matrix it is more difficult, because messages can be deleted and edited. If someone edits his message five times, it would be written in the logs five times with bridge programs, believe me that is annoying. And if you can publish logs, they can be deleted at any time by the user, just because there was something in it that he didn't like. One could discuss about it for a long time.

I have to say, as a coder, being able to alter history kinda turns me off of Matrix. Not being able to have a canonical log of what was said by who and when feels like it'd make an entry point for bad actors to try to stir up trouble in a project.

You can use another home server (e.g. matrix.org) and still dial in to e.g. tchncs.de. I also use a home server other than matrix.org
Edit: I tried to create an account, it works (You have to go to https://chat.tchncs.de/ to register)
I tried to create an account for a guide to registering on matrix.org (also the ReCaptcha query worked and I got an email), but when I tried to log in it said no account found.
Edit: It works now.
