Tracking MT development progress

I'm creating this topic which I'll try to update every week on the same day, to track via pulse how MT development is doing in terms of PRs and issues. The best case scenario, considering there are currently 139 open PRs and 983 issues, is when the number on the left is greater than the one on the right. I also must specify pulse doesn't keep track of closed PRs, hence the red "+N" I manually add. Maybe this can reveal a pattern in the long run (ie. before and after the roadmap), maybe it can be an incentive, or maybe it's completely useless. Whatever the case, it requires me little time

Log

Code: Select all

   Date | PRs | Issues |
24-31 Oct | ( 5m, 5c) 10mc, 11o | 6c, 11o | +1, +5
31-07 Nov | ( 6m, 1c) 7mc, 6o | 17c, 12o | -1, -5

I think this will be disappointing, just a friendly warning =)
In the 5 years i have been core dev, with either many active core devs or few, the number of open issues and PRs has fluctuated but has generally slowly risen.

I consider this somewhat inevitable due to being non-commercial open source software:
Public access, causing large numbers of issues and contributions.
But also...
Only a few unpaid core devs who are exhausted from their busy lives and jobs and have very limited time.

And this is the cause of most MT dev problems.
The latest roadmap cannot make any difference to this.

I wouldn't put it down to that. There's also another issue that keeps the amount of issues rising: Players like the game and use it. And if issues are beeing worked on, people get motivated to create more :-)

But it definitely helps if the line gets shortened a bit from time to time. Thanks to all the devs for their good work!

I'm keeping the same day AND time, so you should subtract 1 merge, 1 new PR and 1 closed issue from here

Update: Pulse sucks, I refuse to continue as it takes a lot of time, considering how it works.
1) it doesn't display closed PRs. This means I have to manually check them, and ok, fine. BUT, if a PR had been opened within the last 7 days and then closed somewhere down the road, it won't be displayed in the open ones. That means I also have to manually check the opening date of every closed PR, to subtract the 7-day recent ones from the rest, and that doesn't sound fun. But ok, I was doing it
2) now I notice how the same thing applies to merged PRs too: if something had been opened AND merged within the last 7 days, it won't appear in open PRs either. So that means I have to manually check the date of every merged PR too. And that's too much for me. Also, having noticed this thing just now, it also means previous data are probably incorrect

In short: PRs data displayed by Pulse is incomplete and highly misleading, conveying the idea that - pick your favourite - [open PR are lower/merged PR are higher] than they actually are
