1 December 2020 (Minecraft)
If you play Minecraft on Windows or an Xbox, can you tell me the answer to these questions?
* Which version are you using? On which platform?
* Does it force you to save your own worlds only on Microsoft servers? Does it default to saving them on Microsoft servers?
* Can you play without without having anything to do with Microsoft servers?
* Can you export your data from Microsoft servers and take them to some other server?
* Can you play the game solitaire without identifying yourself?
* Can you play the game solitaire saving your data and worlds on a server hosted by you?
* Can you play the game solitaire without using any a server?
Regardless of the answers, Minecraft is nonfree software. I urge you to switch to the free program Minetest and reclaim your freedom.

Very interesting article! Maybe you should post this in the General Discussion category as this is not off-topic so that more of those BB users see it.

Re: RMS on Minecraft and Minetest
The Java version doesn't seem that bad. Sadly it will get unusable in the future due to requiring a Microsoft account. It's still supposed to be playable locally (singleplayer) even after that. Servers use more or less open source software to run their servers. Trouble is that they rely on MS for identification of players and do not seem inclined to change that due to fear of cheaters/griefers/players not having bought the game.redblade7 wrote: Which version are you using? It's worth a lot that MT doesn't have a central registry service and can be run just the way you like.

Re: RMS on Minecraft and Minetest
* Which version are you using? On which platform?
RubyDung 3-D Test ... Release 1.16, all work on Windows, OS X, and other operating systems that have a JVM.
* Does it force you to save your own worlds only on Microsoft servers? Does it default to saving them on Microsoft servers?
No, you can't even save them on Microsoft servers, you can only save worlds on your drive.
* Can you play without without having anything to do with Microsoft servers?
Yes, you can use off-line mode, but you will not be able to play on many (unofficial) servers, as they rely on Mojang to authenticate players.
* Can you export your data from Microsoft servers and take them to some other server?
There isn't an official Minecraft server (except for the auth servers) so that depends on the server owner, if you have your own server however or the owner lets you take data from it then yes.
