Minetest featured in a PC magazine!!!

by MCL » Post

Hello, in the 1/2021 issue of the polish computer magazine "Komputer Świat" (pol. computer world), on the attached DVD-ROM they included Minetest and there is also a short pamphlet about it on page 78, it reads:
Minetest (DVD-CODE: 018) can be described in only one way - it's a fully free, open-source version of Minecraft. Even though, both games have some minor differences, gameplay and textures are very similar. Voxel models, made from cubic blocks and the building possibilities limited only by our imaginations are good enough arguments to give this title a try. Though we won't find survival mode, and we can't count on seeing any Creepers or Endermen, Minetest is a great alternative to Minecraft if you're only interested in the creative side of Minecraft
Difficulty: easy
Size after installation: 100MB
This description is somewhat misleading in my opinion, as most games have survival mode, and they did not mention the there are a lot different mods, modpacks, and games for Minetest such as Mineclone and Mineclone 2 which have most entities found in Minecraft, including Creepers and Endermen.
Here is the original:

Update: They also have a different and more accurate description of it on a text file included the DVD, here it is:
Minetest is a popular game inspired by Minecraft. It is developed as an multi-platform open-source project with an active community of players. It offers an open world and a few game modes: you can try to survive in rough conditions, build in creative mode, or fight other players. You can play by yourself, on a local network with your friends, or on an on-line server with tens of other players. You can easily modify Minetest to your liking, the game has a lot of mods - on the on-line discussion board of the game you can find over 1,000 open-source mods that you can use for playing, learning, or making derivatives. Apart from the Windows build included on the disc, the game is also available on Android, macOS, and Linux, among others. After decompressing the archive, you can run the game by executing the file MINETEST.EXE located in the bin folder, which is located in the Minetest root directory.

Although even if Minetest were mentioned in a TV news show, it probably would still not get its own English Wikipedia article due to brigarding.

Nonetheless it's great to see publications, even if they're not entirely correct about the game it's still a good advertisement.

They also have a much better description on a file included on the DVD-ROM, it is way more accurate than the one in the magazine, quite sad that, they didn't include this one on page 78 instead of the other one...
Here's the description I found in the text file, translated to English:

The more “mainstream” sources Minetest appears in, the harder it will be to justify exclusion from Wikipedia.

Free software in general, and especially free software games have a real hard time of being even recognized of existing in the mainstream. If you're lucky, they will talk about “indie” games which are proprietary and commercial. That coverage is already rare, although there are numerous such games. But if we focus on free software games only, all bets are basically off. And by extension, the ignorance from the mainstream leads to the willful exclusion from Wikipedia as well …
Just look at mainstream games publications. Free software simply does not exist there. This is something that is happening to ALL free software games, not just Minetest.

It looks like they have a special issue of Komputer Świat probably intended for kids that also has a Minetest DVD included, apparently it includes some custom mods from them...

Now, in the 4/2020 issue, they added it to their disc once again!
I will add images later, it's around 3 A.M. where I live.

Oh you are right I see: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?ti ... 1004569718

Funny... that seems to be a case that is "english wikipedia exclusive".
