Page containing downloads based on system architecture for the dev version of libjpeg8:
http://packages.debian.org/sid/libjpeg8-dev
I do not know which architecture you are using, select the one for your type of system.
You will have to re-run the cmake anyway if you are compiling, unless alwayscraft has a pre-built package available.

Either something is wrong with your system library paths, or alwayscraft.
Any further is pretty much beyond my scope.
Sorry I could not be of further assistance.
Does standard Minetest compile correctly?

Ok. I can only recommend this (if you didn't do it before):
Go here:
https://github.com/celeron55/minetest
Scroll down and follow the instructions for Linux by copying them and pasting them in your terminal (I don't know how much you know about Linux, but start with SUDO apt-get install build-essential libirrlicht-dev etc. etc.
You can try minetest now or, if you want alwayscraft, try to install that one now (after installing the regular minetest)
P.s. If you already did this, or if it doesn't work, sorry for the trouble. Maybe then you should try to install Lubuntu and try again...

All I was able to find was a pre-built package for alwayscraft. It seems the libjpeg8 dependency was not compiled into the binary. I was unable to locate any source code for it. I recommend you attempt to compile minetest so you will know for a fact if it is a library path problem on your system or an issue with alwayscraft.
