Other language [French] not applicable (Android)

by DiSliKra » Post

Hi, (sorry for my bad english)
Android user. (I tried with two phones : Android 8.1 and Android 10)
When I try to set language to FRENCH, there is no change and all remains in english (I restart the app and restart phone)
It's difficult for my kid to understand the game without french.
Can you help me ?

Thank you !

More informations :
- Minetest 5.4.0 (Android)
- I see "Po" files on my phones but language's change in settings doesn't have any effect !
- After many attempts, I try to replace EL "po" file by FR "po" file -> No effect.

Can you help me ?

I don't know how to do it on Android, but I recommend that you teach your children English at a basic level at least, if you have a broadband Internet connection, you could show them Lippy And Messy on YouTube.

Hmmm, maybe try writing a script that runs every string in MTG through some English->French dictionary...
I've seen somebody do this with Minecraft...

Is there a related issue on GitHub? I can't find it.
Thxs in advance.

Hi, localization is now supported on Android. It'll be released as part of version 5.5.0 in a few weeks

The PR was https://github.com/minetest/minetest/pull/11435

WOW! That's fantastic news Ruben. Thanks Pevernow, and the MT team who made that happen. It's been an annoyance of mine having to always use the laptop to play with my son (being french-speaking, also). Tablets, here we come!
