Paid mods

by Jastiv » Post

Is there a mechanism to pay developers to make a specific mod for minetest, like say a new map gen etc?

I've seen at least one commissioned mod, so I don't see why you can't contact a developer and offer to pay them to create something. It could however be quite expensive to cover all the development time for something complex like mapgen, especially if it's being made from scratch to your specifications. I suppose it's no different than hiring a developer to do create any other piece of software.

(from the description "This mob was anonymously commissioned.")

Then there's Patreon model, where you might be able to suggest and vote on stuff, but you're pretty much going to be supporting the developer in carrying out their vision, with a few nudges from the community here and there.

hmm, you'd get a little cash, but not a lot, it's worth every single penny, ((though))

I don't care about it being made from scratch, I just want it to do specific things, (maybe even fixing the super-flat mod would be enough, I'm not sure.) Basically, I want it to generate a flat map that is always starts in grasslands next to oceans with no trees, but with flowers and grass. I also want to be able to install and run it (obviously).

You can hire Lua developers for around 50-100 USD per hour on Upwork, for example. Those are the normal prizes. There are cheaper devs, though, but I wouldn't trust them.
