Hi, if i write a mod to play a sound when something happens "on the client"! Is everything already downloaded by the client or is it downloaded as the player goes along in the game...

Sounds get sent as part of downloading media by the client on join and the server will then instruct the client to play these sounds afterward.

Yes! Except in specific case of dynamic media, as I use it on my experiment called ptt_talk

Except in specific case of dynamic media
Or if the sound is not provided by the server, the user can have it in their sound pack: https://wiki.minetest.net/Sound_Packs In this case, the sound file is loaded as a whole when it's first played.
he/him; Codeberg; GitHub; ContentDB; public personal TODO list; "DS" is preferred (but often too short)
