Re: Leaving ContentDB
Si in my opinion as of some law knowledge - EVERY server owner / admin that uses this mod have to update to avoid then a regression against server-owner as of KNOW as of this thread there are / was license issues,ROllerozxa wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 09:23...Here's links to the approval threads for the packages I took down during the audit.

to not get involved by STILL using maybe ... wrong parts ?
I just do it better: farming_redo, ethereal NG, mobs_water ... done

Re: Leaving ContentDB
i think a possible solution to all of this would be to have contentdb repositorys ,
like some linux distros have different repos for nonfree software such as the ubuntu multiverse repo ,
i think that to avoid all the BS that is the licensing minefield the future contentdb could work like this :
mod author creates git repo with a file listing his mods (and which versions the mods are on how to get older versions of them costum update rules etc) and request to add the repo to the new contentdb website (which would be a list of repos ) if accepted the repo is added , now the minetest client displays repository's and allows users to install / fetch them , installed / fetched repos show the mods in detail ( screenshots long description etc ) whereas not installed repos only show mod list inside them and short description & small icon (32x to 64x ) to not waste bandwith , this would solve the issue as people who want nonfree mods (for some reason ) could simply add the nonfree repo (preferably unofficial ) and people who dont do not have to (also this would allow having different repo's for different age groups and such )

Re: Leaving ContentDB
@Epoxum - Many thanks for the sushi textures, will add those today.
@c56 - If ContentDB had the option to link downloads from other sources instead of hosting the mod themselves that would avoid license issues entirely because it's not on their site. I could easily have linked the downloadable file to the one's on notabug.org (my git site).

Re: Leaving ContentDB
The main issue with download button linking to an external site is that this site can easily be taken down and you won't be able to download the package anymore. However, when download button is linked to the ContentDB itself (well, its' CDNs or something), you always will be able to download the package (until the DB itself is taken down, of course)
-.-
My mods have been re-added to ContentDB with all of the new (licensed) textures added so far, they are awaiting approval. Thank you to those who have donated their time and effort to helping me, it will not be forgotton. I will however go through all of my mods and see which textures I have permission to use but no license attached, those will need to be dealt with in time.

Re: Leaving ContentDB
Excellent. Glad to see everyone came together to make it all work :)
If you dont have the licenses but only permission, you should prob accept remade textures with proper licenses.

Re: Leaving ContentDB
Please post a list of the textures that are needed, or small lists as you go.
Re: Leaving ContentDB
good minetest mod search engine
https://krock-works.uk.to/minetest/modSearch.php
Just select search using "Author"
https://krock-works.uk.to/minetest/modS ... q=Tenplus1
In this forum clicking user name then "List all mods posted by this user" is ok
I like also like and use content DB but as a user I only care about malware. Fuck Minecraft lol.

Update:
Thanks to everyone who has donated or worked on existing textures, mostly all of my mods are back on ContentDB and all that's left is the following with some license issues (empty brackets show missing licenses):

Re: Leaving ContentDB
From my understanding TenPlus1 made a very valid point. Good to learn that TenPlus1 and their quality mods can continue with ContentDB by help of the community. All sources are available from https://notabug.org/TenPlus1/ anyway.
Even better the MT community found a way to discuss reasonably and was showing able support to a mod maintainer where help was needed. Obviously MT rocks.

Re: Leaving ContentDB
Aaand as of about a day ago now, all of TenPlus1's mods have been brought back up on ContentDB, and hopefully there should be less issues going forward now that all assets have been throughouly audited. For any maintainers of mod soups, you should be sure to update any TenPlus1 mods you have included to be up-to-date with upstream.
Re: Leaving ContentDB
@ROllerozxa - Thanks for your and everyone's help in making this possible... :)

Re: Leaving ContentDB
now i pretty understand the recent commits over the tenplus repos.. respect licensing and textures.. got it..
i guess, +1 tenplus1 cos have a valid point.. the contentdb has so much rare things.. a user recently posted a positrive review in my mod.. and then rubenwardy got deleted.. later i noted that all the rest of comment were by casuallity negative.. https://web.archive.org/web/20230102144 ... issues/413
also i noted that all the good coments are made by coders or content providers .. not real all day players.. most latin american players dont like contendb due the reacctins of the "moderators" (the same that qualify the comments) pretty different rather minecraft were users really plays and does not code..
i was a contributor of the tenplus1 repos and i glad to see that he does not pause in pretty questionable rules: as i noted i cannot promote my new git repos from poikilos were i put my mods.. i support the reasons why tenplus1 do what do..

TenPlus1 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 19, 2022 09:22Preface:
ContentDB was and still is a great way to showcase mods and make it easier for players to download the mods they like within the Minetest client itself. I just wish it was as easy to use for the mod creators who upload them.
Issue:
Mods provided are scrutinized by CDB admin which usually end up with the author having to jumping through hoops to make changes, media licenses which although provided aren't free enough to be hosted on the site, that make us hound media creators for a license that doesn't exist. Isn't permission given license enough to use it ?
Conclusion:
I'm sorry to say that I've closed my ContentDB account and my mods will no longer be listed under the Content tab for players of Minetest. Instead anyone who still wishes to use them will have to go to my git page to download and install them manually. I am sorry.
