The mod was created 2015 and the logo 2012. Sorry, a typo.

I don't see how these "lurkers" have anything to do with Minetest; I've never seen any mobs of them, and they certainly didn't exist around the time that the Minetest logo was created.
Thanks both for the correction and the kind advice. Good story.

Poor Oerkki went to OMSK and got lost, apparently.

However, my basic motion was a proposal to make Lurkers available and mix them with Goblins (which exist in MT) if possible.

NB -
  • The homepage of one erlehmann seems to be worth a visit for the liberal mind, I presume.
  • One will find there a very funny "twitter by #45" logo (being a blue bird with blond wig) and much more.

Hi,

@LibraSubtilis - Oopsy. Such strong words.

You may have missed my "Just joking. Have fun ..." part there.

Nope, the contradiction was injected by you. It would be interesting to read a full deduction proving your statement. But you are only trolling, so my expectations are very low here.
Mea culpa. Intellexeram, si tacuisses.

My apologies. I've made my bed, now I must lie in.

NB - I will try to kill some Lurkers in my dungeon and seek to destroy some electrons on my computer.

Happy New Year and have fun.

The lurkers is a name that I gave them, but they have existed in Minetest for a long time, since the beginning, maybe under a different name.

It is a story I heard in Discord.

In fact Petz already incorporates since its creation 2 years ago a hidden texture to implement them. And it is still there, any day they will appear, or not, I don't know. It is very scary.

This guy farjikaam35 is a hacker or an imposter. Please could a moderator remove him?

That message was mine, how could he send it? I think the forums are hijacked.

v-robs explanation seems likely. The texture of the oerkki reminds me of an avatar I saw, but I can't remember the user who used it.

However, not my cup of tea.

Please note my Work, thus my funny new Avatar's logo derived from a.m. logo, and any of my commit are always explicitly and/or implicitly :
  • "Licensed under the EUPL-1.2-or-later"
The text of the European Union Public Licence (EUPL) version 1.2,
published in Official Journal of 19 May 2017 and available in 23 official

IMO this is very compatible, certainly to my personal needs as a private citizen.

Hope this helps.

But it is true and was found. Look, it sits just to the left and watches all of us.

Loveley little Lurker now always lurking and looking at us from it's cave here in our dungeon, called the Minetest Forum.

Have fun.

THX for the clarification.

However, I always wonder how Wikipedia can be called correct or even trustworthy, This ongoing public domain (?) effort may be an invention of the Internet but might always and unfortunately quite continuously be just inventing issues of its own with debatable outcome, I presume.

My five cents.

Keep on the good work with Minetest and prosper.

I don't see how these "lurkers" have anything to do with Minetest; I've never seen any mobs of them, and they certainly didn't exist around the time that the Minetest logo was created.

I always thought it was an oerkki (although they have green eyes) or a dungeon master (which have black eyes) since that makes the most sense in the context of early Minetest. As for an explanation of why the eyes are red even though no mobs at the time had that eye color, I presumed that the actual reason was that no one really noticed and/or cared; after all, monsters often have red eyes. It turns out, however, that the eyes can't be a dungeon master. As shown by the commit log, the Minetest logo predates the dungeon master, although not the oerkki.

If you want a more clever explanation that just occurred to me and seems fairly plausible, erlehmann, the creator of the Minetest logo, also made the fork Minetest-Delta back in the 0.2 versions. It, among other things, changed the textures of oerkki to something else:

Minetest-c55: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/bl ... erkki1.png
Minetest-Delta: https://github.com/erlehmann/minetest-d ... erkki1.png

That changed texture has red eyes. Interestingly, if I'm not mistaken, the logo was created for Minetest-Delta around the same time as these textures were created. Compare the first oerkki change to have red eyes and the Minetest logo commit on the Minetest-Delta repository. The logo comes a few days later. The Minetest logo commit in Minetest-c55 (linked to before) uses the same commit as Minetest-Delta because much of Minetest-Delta was merged directly into the main Minetest repository.

I could be wrong about this, but it seems plausible. If you want to be certain, you could ask erlehmann, who still appears from time to time, to get the actual story. But this is possibly one of the best explanations we have based on guesswork.
You are entirely correct. The oerkki replacement creature is supposed to be an Omsk bird – it is based upon an image from Heiko Müller called “Winged Doom”. This is a meme that I probably got from Krautchan (a long-defunct mainly-german-language imageboard, where memes like “that feel” and countryballs originated). The character was paired sometimes with the text “Nicht schubsen, ich habe einen Joghurt im Rucksack!” (german for “Do not shove me, I have yoghurt in the backpack!”).

In the summer of 2011 (?) when I did the Minetest stuff, a friend of mine made a flat Omsk bird relief that I still have today. It may have served as inspiration for the oerkki replacement graphic. Maybe I can upload a picture of it some time.

Edit: Note that the commit message for commit d4dadb6f3611b1642be9812601b7909f7085ec2f of minetest-delta is “* Омская птица”, which according to Google Translate is literally “* Omsk bird”.
