Minecraft-Educational-Like Mode Developer wanted

by whereslotffof » Post

Hey everyone!

We’re looking for some nice developer who’d be able to help us create a Minecraft-Educational-Like Mode for Minetest. The purpose is to develop a platform for an EdTech startup, where we host CS (and not only) lessons. Founder is based in Texas, US, an entrepreneur with a lot of successful projects and international experience, so it’d be a great career growth opportunity for those who are interested.

Please reply here or leave a letter at nastya@q1ua.com for a quicker response. Thank you!

Interesting opportunity! Might be worth providing more information about the company - what's their background/experience. Also, how long is the opportunity? Is it a freelance, temporary, or permanent position? What's the salary range?

Your email provider's website attempts to show Amazon in an iFrame, you definitely don't want to do that as it is a common technique for malicious sites, see clickjacking. If the site is just not set up yet, then probably best to use something else when testing

I would be interested to know more too!

Have you worked with video games in edu before?
Have you used Minetest for workshops or in class already? How did it go?
What do you think of the current mods available? I believe quite a few are computer science oriented.
What other themes would you be interested in?
Would the code produced be FLOSS?

Thanks!

Thank you for your interest :)
First of all, you can check our website: https://www.openblock.space/;
Yet it’s a test project with a long-term employment opportunity. For salary range details (and other employment questions also) please contact our CEO - v@openblock.space. (And thanks for the email warning! We’re working on it);

We’ve had a lot of experience of lessons within VR/Web 3 platforms with Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Cornell Tech professors speaking, but now we’re moving on to our primary aim - to combine gaming and education. Our team with other guests, parents, their kids have tested different popular video games, especially Minecraft Education and we’ve hosted several lessons/workshops there too. It went great and we had amazing feedback, but we need a better alternative with more freedom and something of our own, so we’ve started exploring Minetest together with our CTO.

Speaking of current mods, for sure there is something available, but we haven’t explored it enough. And anyway upgrade and personalization is always better :)
About FLOSS: for now we’re not going to make it public, but we’ll see how it goes in the future.

I get suspicious the more I research into the website and people involved with this org/project. So many buzz words, tech startup, influences, and venture capital "entrepreneurs and investors" hype with not much substance or experience to show anywhere. All people listed linked to Ukraine and US tech startups. CEO profile on Linkedin sharing stories about Davos. Seems fake as. The org sounds like a "hearts and minds" type operation being run and developed for Ukraine.

With so much alleged venture capital backing and tech entrepreneurs, why are you coming here soliciting free development work. Post a job ad online at a hiring site for a dev and pay them to do it. Says they're from Texas, US, but website text is written by a Ukranian (many mistakes in the English writing by a non-native speaker), all Linkedin employees and people connected are Ukrainian, and the Twitter page has only 2 followers. The entrepreneur / ceo here mentioned is supposedly Volodymyr Berezhniy, but the web shows nothing but Linkedin posts from him. There is no mention of him on the web or any work he has been involved in. This sounds like some grade-A bullshit to me. Lots of effort put into looking legit here. Tread carefully.

We’re glad that you put effort into research, it shows the professionalism. Though I’d like to clarify some things:

1) The post never mentioned we were looking for free work. We pay to all our employees a fair price;
2) We’re not from Texas, we’re based there. Core team is Ukrainian, but our Product Director is Canadian, Advisors and Speakers/Teachers/Professors are American, if that matters. Just a few are listed on the LinkedIn so far. We’re working for the US market and have set many connections there, that’s why TX was mentioned. Meanwhile we’re helping Ukraine too together with our non-profit project, though it’s not our focus, and Ukrainian market was a good “testing platform”, but that’s it.
3) It’s a startup, so yet we’re working on our first sales, which is exactly why we need to hire a good developer - to prepare the best product for the market. On this stage we don’t have much to show, but this is what it takes for an early stage venture. Besides, we have over 65 events hosted, 300+ kids signed up for lessons, 1300+ parents signed up for test lessons, we’re preparing our first CS workshop and there’re more results to be shown soon;
4) Unfortunately, our SMM manager is not familiar with Twitter algorithms so well for now, but we’re working on it. And for the website, we’re hiring a native-speaking copywriter to improve it as well. It’s understandable if the “hype” over our project and CEO seems suspicious, but we have a lot of experienced people helping us with it, Volodymyr is indeed successful and it’s not fake. He is mentioned in the articles on the web too. If you scroll through his LinkedIn posts, there are a lot of proofs of connections and meetings with influential personas he met and works with in the US. You can research his companies and experience too, it’s all there.

Hope this helped :)
Best
