I've been playing minetest for months now, only offline. I'm getting a new pc soon, and i'd really find it so sad if i were to lose all my hours building and playing into minetest. So i wonder, is it somehow possible to save the server as a file and export it?
Im playing on a linux x86 system.
Thanks for reading and let me know if you have something for me ^^
Is it possible to save an offline game as a file?
Re: Is it possible to save an offline game as a file?
There should be a folder named ".minetest" in your user home folder. Copy the folder or contents that you want to the new computer.
Code: Select all
~/.minetest/

FYI, you don't need to copy the ~/.minetest/cache/ folder.

I'll just add that the most common way to redistribute world files is to add ~/.minetest/worlds/<worldname> (or equivalent on Windows & macOS) to a .tar.gz or .zip archive. But yeah, for moving to a new PC, copying the entire .minetest should work well. The cache directory Desour mentioned will have a lot of files from all the servers you have connected to which may add a lot of file copy time, but copying it will also save time connecting to servers on your new PC, so it's up to you. As it's a Linux system I would try to copy your whole home directory so you can keep your settings.
