This time there are gonna be some challenges but still also the creative task like in competition 1.
Some speed challenges may follow, these are the ones for now:

Challenges
Difficulty: easy
- Build a disco | design challenge
- Build a self-building bridge | speed challenge --> fullfilled, winner: jmf
- Build an automatic sliding door | speed challenge --> fullfilled, winner: Nore

Difficulty: medium
- Build a >creative< trap | design challenge
- Build a 4-bit-adder | speed challenge --> fullfilled, winner: monty_oso

Difficulty: advanced
- Build the temple of celeron55 (like the temple of notch, YouTube
Tip: use an object detector instead of a pressure plate at the well
+ record a video of it (for bonus points) | design challenge
- Build a programmable disco. Use Microcontrollers (RS- or T-Flops) as program memory. Make at least 4 channels ( = a sequence of active / inactive lights) | design challenge

Difficulty: expert
- Build a display that can save and load one or more images
Points: width*height*memory (number of saves) | design challenge
- Build anything you want (like the first competition) | design challenge

speed challenge = The first one to send in a working map is the winner
design challenge = The best one wins, be creative!

You can do whatever you want as long as it fits the topic.
Your creations will be rated by a jury (currently sfan5, Jeija). The criteria are:
Work invested 50%
Ingenuity: 30%
Design: 20%

Rules
Basically the same like last time: http://minetest.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=2810
Starts: Now!
Ends: New Year's Eve

Who can take part?
Single persons, teams or even servers.
Maybe have a mesecon competition group on your server?

Your creation will be published on the mesecons.tk website.

Post your submission in this forum thread, with at least 1 screenshot + the map.
Good luck!

hey, you shouldnt let them submit maps here... maybe let them send it to you, in case of cheating/copying etc...

by Jeija
You submit your map when it's finished, not before. So if everyone submits their map at the end of the time, there is no chance for cheating.

Should all the stuff be made on one single map?
Or one project, one map?
e.g. One map with only the bridge?

ow... i didnt know xD

Oh, saw it...
Ignore my last question.

No, but everyone who is on the forums regularly will most likely see this.

Here is the 4 bit adder: http://www.uploader.ro/files/P1TNVWVU/bitadder.tar.lzma

If something goes bad just turn on all the swiches and then turn off all the swiches.

Where and when should we upload the maps/screenshots ?

Posted: Mon Dec 10, 2012 16:15
by Jeija
Uploading

Where?
Any hosting site you like, I prefer ubuntu one, ompldr, mediafire, google drive, dropbox,...
Please don't use any login-or-wait-2-minutes websites if possible. ompldr or ubuntu one is better.
Screenshots: I prefer imgur

When?
Speed challenge: As soon as possible
Design challenge: When you've finished.

@monty_oso: Looks like we got our first winner! (I have to check some more things, but it should be fine). Your project will be featured on the mesecons.tk website if you agree. Why is it under water???

Is it possible to participate at several challenges?

Posted: Mon Dec 10, 2012 16:51

May we modify files of the mod (for example adding an abm for plug/sockets in order to prevent circuit failures) ?

I have finished the bridge:
Download:
ompldr.org/vZ240dA/bridge.zip
EDIT: Button for bridge is at (41,6,36)
EDIT2: Screenshot:

It is driven by movestones. In front you can see the mesecon wires.
The bridge is expanded on the screenshot.

@jmf: You can participate in as many challenges as you want. You may also send in multiple solutions for one challenge.
@Nore: Modification and using other people's mods is allowed as long as the modifications can be used by other people, too, are not machine-specific.
@jmf: Looks like we got a second winner!
Actually I was expecting something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIYxwDVonc4, but of course I didn't tell you that clearly and therefore you won.

There is a new speed challenge!
- Build an automatic sliding door | speed challenge

(there will be new speed challenges from time to time so that everyone has the same chance)

For the sliding door :

https://github.com/Novatux/Sliding_door

For the screenshots... Sorry, when I want to take a screenshot, I get a black image...

EDIT : you could add a challenge for building something without microcontrollers.

Wow, awesome Nore!
I didn't come up with the idea of the pistons that pull away the last block. Well done!
You're the next winner! And great design btw.

That are all the speed challenges for now, but there may be more next week.
I'm really curios what your ideas for the design challenges are.

@Nore:
WOW!
This sliding doors are really impressing!
Congratulations.

It's under water because i can't fly. I try "/grant singleplayer fly" and then press "k" but the game says this "free move enabled (note: no 'fly' privilege)"

I agree, in fact do whatever you like which the map :D

Posted: Mon Dec 10, 2012 22:10

You can enable fly privilegue by going into the map folder and change this line in auth.txt:

Code: Select all

singleplayer::shout,interact
to

Code: Select all

singleplayer::shout,interact,fly
or if you want fast, too

Code: Select all

singleplayer::shout,interact,fly,fast
With this you can add every priv.

Is sad we will don't know who is the winner of the design challenges because...

the word ends in the 21 of December. :P

@monty_oso: I honestly thought about setting the end of the competition to the 21st of December, but that would have been to short for some great machines.

1) I cannot open that file (even though I could unpack the last one) - please use .zip or .tar.gz
2) Please upload to ompldr, google drive, mediafire, Ubuntu One; Two of your links don't work at all and for the netload one it takes ages until you can download it

Anyway thanks for your participation :)

My first entry for the creative challenge...

It is a 4-bit multiplier, with decimal display, everything without a single microcontroller. Requires plugs and sockets with inverters enabled to work.

What to do if it does not work (incorrect result/display):

First check the bus (those suspended lines).
If it is not the bus, check the multipier output (8 wires, binary left being the biggest).
If not, check display decoder (those plugs and sockets sometimes get stuck).
If not, check binary-to-bcd decoder (4-bit entry A, 4-bit output B : if A<5, B=A, if 5<=A<10, B=A+3, incorrect input else).

If it is the multipier, check the unconnected lines : they should be the inputs of the multiplier, else, follow them to see where is the bug.

I will probably post a more detailed post later.

About the screenshots, if someone could do them, I would be happy...
