VanessaE's Minetest builds for Linux (2013-06-19)

This topic/thread is obsolete. No further builds are planned.

Here are my git builds for AMD64 GNU/Linux, with cURL and LuaJIT support (but not Freetype). Includes minetest_game, of course. Built against glibc 2.13 and Irrlicht 1.7.2.

LuaJIT: http://digitalaudioconcepts.com/vanessa ... af151a.deb

________________________________________________________________
Older builds:

Some of these builds were made under Ubuntu 13.04, the rest under 12.04, but I don't remember which is which. As far as I know this shouldn't matter, these should be cross-compatible.

Click here for my archive of previous builds.

Notes:

Since these builds are from Minetest git sources, they should be considered experimental to a small degree - expect the occasional problem.

At present, these builds contain patches by PilzAdam to limit the CPU usage of the flowing liquids code, but are otherwise unaltered.

If your package manager complains about the package missing a maintainer name, just install it anyway - I don't know how to fix that.

After you install Minetest and LuaJIT, if you get an error complaining that libluajit-5.1.so.2 was not found when you run the game, just do sudo ldconfig and run the game again.

Hey how do you make a build work? like how you make the source code files gone, and have a .exe?

I build for Linux, not Windows, so there are no exe's here. This is done by using a compiler toolchain such as cmake + make + gcc.

Well then I will ask Adam then.

Could you make portable installs too? I just prefer them.

Also, finally got Ubuntu installed on a 32GB USB drive, very pleased w/ it :3

It gets very good FPS on MT, better than XP

Why create a 2nd Linux repo when the PPA is still being used?

The PPA only makes 32-bit builds.

No the PPA is still currently making 64bit packages for Ubuntu 12.04 Precise, 12.10 Quantal and 13.04 Raring
and is the same PPA that i'm using, in fact i'm suprised that 32 bit versions are still being offered

Maybe to allow people using 32-bit OS to enjoy Minetest ? ^^

I used the debian package and it installed but does not seem to run at all. (File ended up in usr/local/bin. Is that what it's supposed to do?) I click it and absolutely nothing happens. No Minetest in the list of processes in the system monitor. Nothing.

Also I cannot seem to uninstall it now. It cannot be searched through the software center's installed software function, and I have no idea where all the parts of it went. Opening the file with the package manager just gives an option to reinstall, not uninstall.

Sorry... =( I am having a very, very hard time getting Minetest to work on my machine, and I can't for the life of me figure out why.

Out of curiosity, what's Luajit support?

---->EDIT<---

I couldn't do it on purpose on a bet, but somehow the package manager came up on its own seemingly, and when I signed in I was able to find minetest in a list of software and uninstall it. The file is no longer in usr/local/bin, so I am going on the assumption everything else is gone too. Still struggling to get my install-from-source version to talk to the single player server.

What Debian distribution are you using and what desktop are you using? i.e Gnome, KDE, XFCE etc

Also from what source did you obtain the package, i use the minetest daily PPA

https://code.launchpad.net/~minetestdev ... /+packages

Your Minetest build crashes with segmentation fault, when I'm pressed any button in mod craftguide (https://github.com/sapier/craftguide)
IMHO this is a build problem, because it works in minetest from Debian/unstable

Is ther a guide on how to update a current install of minetest?

If you're using the Debian package, you can just "sudo apt-get remove minetest-git" and then install the new package in your usual manner. The Slackware ones should have a similar upgrade path (depending on how its packaging system works of course).

For the run-in-place build, download and extract the new build, copy your worlds, settings, etc. over to the new one, and either delete or store the old build away.

Thx

Is there a change log for the new builds?

Not for my builds, but there is an official, overall changelog here:

VanessaE, would it not be best to include a link to the launchpad Daily Builds PPA for Ubuntu users which does both i386 and AMD64 builds?
