Spawning in Water
Spawning in Water
Playing Vanilla Minetest, does it bug you when you start a fresh new world and the first place you plop right down into is water? And we're not talking about water close to some island, we're talking about in the Ocean water far from the island. When you die, you spawn right back in the water where you belong apparently.

When this happens to me, I find it slightly annoying. And it happens rarely to me. I find it only slightly annoying because you can swim over the largest oceans for as long as you like without ever drowning. The only downside of swimming is that it just takes longer than walking.
If Minetest wouldn’t allow you to swim for an infinite time, that would be different, because then, spawning in the middle of an ocean would mean a quick death. In this case, I would find spawning in the middle of an ocean very annoying.
If it annoys you too much, you could add static_spawnpoint to minetest.conf.
Replace “X”, “Y” and “Z” by the coordinates.
I sadly don’t know how to do this on a per-world basis. :-(
Alternatively, you could try to build a platform at the spawning position. ;-)

I generally spawn underground beneath dirt.
Sometimes, it's harder to think up a mod than it is to create it.

i have first-spawned one time inside a tree, and once above a deep ravine (i think it was a ravine - that fall at first spawn to the ground was a really long one and i died) - that was on 0.4.7 from back in september compiled from source with v6 mapgen and minetest-game also from back then - has not happened with the latest one so far

No I use the latest dev version I do however use multiple mapgen mods such as Nore's experimental mapgen and Paragen so my problem may be attributed to those.PilzAdam wrote:Do you play 0.3?Chinchow wrote:I generally spawn underground beneath dirt.

Actually, I prefer spawning in water, and I generally build a simple spawn building/wharf there. Mobs generally don't venture out there, so it works out well when players die, as it gives them time to catch their breath and not have to deal with nasty monsters (with their sword in their fresh bones elsewhere).

first-spawned in plain vanilla/v6 without a tree anywhere in sight - grrrrr - walk for miles or just exit, delete world and go again?
