How Are Mobs Implemented?

I was looking at some Minecraft footage earlier, and I want to liberalize the rules for spawning mobs to simply do so either in dark places or anywhere at night.

How are mobs implemented in code? The comments say that they are somewhere in environment.cpp, but no variables or further comments mention them.

Where are they within the codebase?

You could find rats underground , and evil guys cu red eyes (don't know sure how to call them) . They are just underground , not spawning at night (i didn't see mobs in open air)

Sorry for the misunderstanding - I'd like to find out how to hack out some of the mob's spawning restrictions. The "where" referred to the codebase, not the game itself.

I found it - the name one should `grep` for is "Oerkki".
