Re: Minetest on Steam
More people would be great but it needs to be something that gives Minetest more freedom. It is Steams policy that is the issue. Find a service that doesn't limit the freedom of Minetest and there should be no issue with it.

Re: Minetest on Steam
Look at the Steam greenlight to see how the process works. The freedom I was referring to is to be able to make changes to the game or mods easily. Also, there is a $100 fee to sign up. Minetest needs an open platform that can easily be updated and can support mods.

Re: Minetest on Steam
While I wish Minetest could be on Steam, I have to agree with this. Putting a watered down version of Minetest on Steam would just give people a bad view of Minetest. If it were easy/cheap to integrate the workshop, then it might be worth it. But I think maybe just putting the word about Minetest out on the steam user group might make more sense.Don wrote:Look at the Steam greenlight to see how the process works. If I am wrong then please explain how it works. If it is easy for players to get mods and updates then I would be for it. Considering the$100 goes to charity then raising the money should be easy

Hmm, maybe in the description we could point to the website where the Mods are kept? We could do a gofundme, I'd give a fiver.Don wrote:If I am wrong then please explain how it works. Re: Minetest on Steam
Without mods or subgames minetest is boring. Minetest is meant to be modded. Having only the default game on steam might cause more harm then good.

Re: Minetest on Steam
I would like to see MT on steam, but now isnt a great time to do so. Minetest lacks content and has some flaws, and publishing it how it is may leave a bad rep. It probably would be seen as "another survival craft game" ...(greenlight is saturated with them). We should wait until the bugs are sorted out and games like Pixture are added to bring more content.
For the money we could make a kickstarter/crowdfunding to publish it, managed by a trustworthy dev.

Really? I just wanted to leave my thoughts about this problem. That kind of attitude leads topic to nowhere. Everyone here left legit reasons to avoid it, at least for now.amadin wrote:You will wait always. So you need remove minetest from "Google Play" becauseOn Steam many moge bugged and not complited games then minetest, and people playing this. It seems in the guise of the players write here the representatives of the company Mojang, because if Minetest will on Steam they will be deprived part of cash income.publishing it now it is may leave a bad rep
If you want the game to have the game have negatives review and overall forgotten, fine by me...

Re: Minetest on Steam
I will just leave this here, I think it despicts what would happend if you put Minetest in Steam.
(Not saying MT is bad, just saying it's not developed enough be _released_)Shigeru Miyamoto wrote:"A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever."

minetest is not a "game", it's an engine.Dragonop wrote:I will just leave this here, I think it despicts what would happend if you put Minetest in Steam.(Not saying MT is bad, just saying it's not developed enough be _released_)Shigeru Miyamoto wrote:"A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever."
it just happens to not have any games included with the engine except the minimal "minetest_game".

Re: Minetest on Steam
And even as engine falls short, but the thing here is not to avoid just a bad rep, but to be lost along the others. In order to stand out from the crowd it will take more than just being an "engine". At least it should be published with more content than minetest_game. We shouldnt have lower standards because there is sh*t in greenlight.firefox wrote:minetest is not a "game", it's an engine.Dragonop wrote:I will just leave this here, I think it despicts what would happend if you put Minetest in Steam.(Not saying MT is bad, just saying it's not developed enough be _released_)Shigeru Miyamoto wrote:"A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever."

Re: Minetest on Steam
Steam is for gamers, and I don't think Minetest is good enough as a game yet. Maybe it will be in the future.

Re: Minetest on Steam
We would still be showing a low quality game to the public, and most Steam users are not going to get easy on us because of some excuse like "it's under development", "Still not final version" "It's a free game". And yes I know it's an engine I have been here long enoughfirefox wrote:-snip-

Anyways, why would you want to put Minetest in Steam if it's an engine and not a game? I also know that it also sells other kinds of software, but you get my point
And yes, I know this is not a good answer, but it is as valid as your argument.Steam welcome page wrote:(steam) Delivers a range of games straight to a computer's desktop

Re: Minetest on Steam
I've got (Another) idea. Why don't we wait till version 1.0 (first version playable without mods), and then reconsider this? I think this thread should be locked for now, and left for future Minetesters as a reminder of a dark era, era of 0.x versions.
It's lisac, not lisa.
