You'll want to adjust the photos so that they are tiling properly. Most evident with the grass.
Forgot my old username/email, it's been a number of years please bear with.

Yes of course that's the purpose of this pack
for now it's only a test and I intend to improve it and change some textures.
I agree with you for the moment the grass is not very developed and I intend to change it.

Interesting given the first screenshots.
Just a note, high resolution textures significantly increase loading time...
However, result is pretty good, keep up the good work :-)

Yes, I am aware that this can affect the performance of some computers.
So I think I will propose the pack under different resolutions.
But right now it’s just a test...

pictures to come...
The pack is now available on content db
https://content.minetest.net/packages/C ... version=41
Feel free to test it and send me your opinion and if you think I’m changing anything.
The 1024px Phototextures Texture Pack is a 1024px per-texture depack test.

It has basic textures in the game minetest and to be finished.
Textures are not final and can be changed over time.
The textures of this pack were entirely designed by me, I made them in part from photos I took myself.
The tool bar can be changed in purple as well as inventory. It is enough to find them in the mod folder and invert the names of the files "gui_formbg" and "gui_frombg_violet" as well as the files "gui_hotbar_selected" and "gui_hotbar_selected_violet"

If you have photo ideas that I could take for some textures that are still not there, I take.
Thanks

Hey, maintaining more than one resolution is hell ;)
Trust me ;)

And 1024px textures will only be usable on really powerful PCs. E.g. mobile phones probably won't do it.
But otherwise I'm curious to see how it will develop ;)
Fingers crossed :)

At 1024px, a straight downscale to 512px could be done with a simple shell script, maybe even as a git commit hook. It's not like scaling down 32px to 16px where you basically need to redraw it with sharper lines.

Yes I can even do it directly in Windows File Explorer.
But in the meantime here are two new blocks:
-Desert stone block
-Stone bloc

Hey do you know how to put a jpeg file with a png extension ?
Because I don't know how to do it, and so that the textures (non-transparent) are supported by minetest and so that they take up less space.
Thanks.

It's the actual file contents that matter, not the extension. JPEG format cannot hold transparency data, end of story. But what I can tell you is that you can override the original file names for textures, as described in the docs, so that you can use JPEG textures for most of the textures in the game instead of PNG, except where you need transparency. Saving as JPEG then resaving as PNG is also a bad idea by the way, since PNG compresses best when there are large sections of flat colours, and JPEG lossy compression will introduce many small artifacts that actually hinder PNG's lossless compression. So you can introduce an override.txt into your texture pack for most of your textures, and only use PNG for textures that need transparency like doors.

Ok thanks, but what is the formula to use in the override file to change the name of a file.

Hello everyone, I am going to clarify things and it will be simpler for everyone.
I am going to separate the texture pack into 2 distinct ones. Because when downloading directly from minetest, you cannot choose the version you want (it puts the last one I liked online).
So there will be a X1024 texture pack and a X512 one.
I will add the links later
And you will be able to switch between the two packs directly on the content DB (I will provide a link to switch from one to the other).
I will add the links on the forum when it's done.
And yes, also, a small poll: do you also want a 256px version?
Thank you.

Hi,
the two modes are now distinct:

To access the 512px version:
https://content.minetest.net/packages/C ... res_512px/

To access the 1024px version:
https://content.minetest.net/packages/C ... es_1024px/

While on my way to investigate my advice about using an override.txt file, I discovered another interesting fact about Minetest texture packs. Minetest will automatically find texture files encoded in other formats and with other file extensions in your texture pack directory and use them instead of the default textures. For instance, just by converting all the PNG files which have no transparency to JPEG and deleting the PNGs, I noticed the texture pack still works. I even drew a little smiley face into the acacia logs to make sure it was the actual JPEG textures being used and they were. Hope that helps :)

Navigate to your debug.txt. On Windows that's in your Minetest directory. Open it up and look for the same lines as you are seeing in chat. Paste them here so we can know what the actual error is.

Hi here is the error command displayed for the acacia tree block in jpeg:
Irrlitch:JPEG FATAL ERROR in C:/Minetest/minetest-5.6.1-win64/texture/phototextures_1024px/default_acacia_tree_top.jpg: Not a JPEG file: starts with 0X89 0X50

And yet the file is a jpg
And the command does not appear anywhere on the debug.txt file, weird...

It's actually not though. It's just a PNG with a .JPG extension. We talked about this, you can't just rename the extension and make it a different kind of file. You need to re-encode it with another program.
