This is awesome. Thank you for the initiative. I was looking for something like this for quite some time.

I'm of the opinion that 32x32 is the perfect size for a texture pack. Anything bigger becomes too noisy and overworked. And 16px doesn't allow for enough detail when you want to represent certain things that might not be easily recognizable without a higher resolution.

Hi all,

I am of the same opinion as Ferk, 32x32 is better than 16x16, i only use it. I will test soon.
‎Very good job Napiophelios. ^-^

I am glad you all like it :)
Wasnt sure how it would be accepted.

I like the default textures but some mods dont use 16px
so this way to keep everything level

I really only plan on doing materials though so it wont be quite complete texture pack
craft and tools items are hard to do 32px without looking weird in game.
they seem to look better low res to me.

I have picks and shovels and swords etc made but in game they are blah.
so I will keep to myself till I can do better.

Me and Zeg9 created a pack like this a while back, though it hasn't been updated recently. Maybe our textures could give some inspiration, just thought it might be relevant.

How did I miss that? Probably I also thought it was just the Minecraft faithful ported. That texture pack already looks very good. I like that the dirt has some texture to it as well and it's not so smooth. I also prefer the stonebrick (the bricks are actually bigger, instead of just having the 16x16 tiled double, being bigger it might look weird in the corners when looking the node in isolation, but it looks better in a wall). However, I think Napiophelios wood and cobble textures look much better, specially the wood looks really nice.

I think it would be awesome if you picked (or edited) the best of each and produced an updated and good looking faithful 32px texture pack.

These textures I shared are manipulations of Minetest textures,
so long as the original Minetest license is respected;
anyone can do with these what they please, they are not mine.

I think its good people edit and make them however they wish.
:)

Ow, when I said "you" I meant you both. Or whoever has the motivation and skills to do it, since both packs are CC-BY-SA the only thing needed is to give credit and share it alike.
It's awesome when there's freedom, whoever does it and whatever the name of the pack the implicit collaboration means the textures can only keep improving.

Wow, this textures sure look good!
But I don't think the jungle tree is intended to be like that... One of the devs (I think it was C55, can't remember) said that the original textures represent a tree with some plants crawling in the trunk:

Nice to see the improvements. The dirt looks a bit better now, less smooth.
I still like better the dirt texture in Evergreen's pack but I think I could live with that, this one is less detailed (well.. more like, smoother) but it's closer to original Minetest dirt I think.

I like a lot the improved stone texture, I think it's perfect like it is. Also the pine_tree and tree sides look very good.

The grass looks good imho, but the dry grass color stands out too much when placed in a dry-grass with dirt node. They should blend more, either of them needs to be changed. But I like the contrast in the texture of the dry grass, makes it look more rich/interesting..

Imho, the new furnace is not so faithful anymore. It's just a matter of personal preference, though, it still looks fine, just that it's a different direction now.

Thanks for the feedback! Its very important to know how others receive these.
I am glad your issues are only with things I consider "experimental"

I too am not happy with jungletree or dry_grasses, they are hard for me to get right
when I try to imitate a pixel by pixel build up of these they just look terrible
so I settle for some artistic licensing for the time being :)

When playing the game I became very disenchanted with the furnace (with cobble detail).
again its gotta be right or it wont fly when playing game; it only distracts me.
I plan on trying the furnace with cobble detail again soon,
but I was more anxious to see results with new fire texture added to its detail.
Again, I agree its not great but I like the way it looks in the game
by comparison to what I had before

I will keep honing away at them till I can get'em right though :)

These are my first draft attempts at fixing dry_grass colors and the furnace design
Try them out and tell me what you think.

Oh wow, the dry grass sure looks better now!
But, where did the flat surface on top of the furnace go? It makes more sence, I mean, that surface would be used to... put stuff on top and heat it up, I think lol.
Anyways! Keep the good work! Making textures is hard...

Nice!
How about some strategically positioned rocks around the furnace opening? (just some testing I did)

I thought it looked out of place with the rough cobbled sides, but now that you mention that
it makes perfect sense. I will have to put that back in for sure
I like the vent too so I will have to see what it'll look like with both.
If it doesnt look right I will opt for the smooth surface alone.
thanks for the input.

I like it. I tried something similar but couldnt get the rounded arch to look right.
I may have to use yours. :)

Great addition to Minetest texture pack. I suggest for this tp to be included in future release. Thumbs up!

I'd be honored.
Though maybe check that the sides look ok when tiled, maybe I overdid editing the borders so there might be some strange pattern when tiling two furnaces next to each other.

Though if fixing the pattern is too much, you could just add some border to it. It's not standard cobble anyway.
veriaqa wrote:I suggest for this tp to be included in future release.
Would be nice to have a second, higher res, texture pack. But I don't know if it'll happen, the decision making process of the dev team is very conservative.

But I'd be interested in shipping these textures with Dungeontest. I've already had to use this resolution in several items and things, so it would be more consistent to switch to 32x32 entirely.

However, I still like more Evergreen's stonebrick (bigger bricks, same relative size as original, matches the size of my custom dungeon wall), since the dungeon is full of it I'll probably take the brick texture from the other pack. Though I still prefer this pack for most other textures.

EDIT: sorry, wrong quote
