Re: HDX Textures (16 - 512 px) [git rolling release]
Small-ish update: All picks 64px and up got new handle textures. Affects all texture pack releases and all supported games (as long as I didn't miss anything).

Re: HDX Textures (16 - 512 px) [git rolling release]
Hi VanessaE , I have a bug/problem with the 64px. A lot of the wools , including white wool has no texture at all.
First it was garbled texture , then I downloaded the latest 64px fron GIT and now it has no texture at all.
Server is 0.4.10 64bit stable runnig Dreambuilder game ( updated last night ) with no additional mods.
Client ( where problem is ) is Win 7 64bit. Minetest 0.4.10 stable 64bit using 64px downloaded a few minutes ago.
I wanted to take a screenshot of the problem but F12 don't work while inventory is open and the prntscrn to paste in paint also don't want to work.
Any idea how to fix this problem ?

My best guess is lack of RAM - maybe you just don't have enough, or perhaps just not enough video RAM in particular.
I can't help you with the screenshot issue, as that's a Windows thing. I only use Linux here (taking a screenshot offers to save, upload, open in a program...)

Re: HDX Textures (16 - 512 px) [git rolling release]
I doubt it. System RAM is 16gig , Video Ram is 4gig GDDR 5. ( Geforce GTX760 )VanessaE wrote:My best guess is lack of RAM - maybe you just don't have enough, or perhaps just not enough video RAM in particular.

And I have played with this texture packs for weeks now without a problem. Only started today.
I tried clearing the /cache/media on the client. That didn't help.
Then tried the 128px , that one has garbled texture. Also only on the wools , nothing else.
I'm going to connect with my Ubuntu laptop now to see if the problem is specific to the Win 7 pc.
EDIT: My Ubuntu client is fine. So this is specific to Win 7. Maybe someone that also play on Win 7 can point me in the right direction how to solve this problem. ( No software was added today , no graphics driver updates or changes was done , no graphic settings was changed in game )
EDIT 2: I solved this problem by disabling the " preload visual items " option in the settings. With that setting disabled the wool textures is fine.
Re: HDX Textures (16 - 512 px) [git rolling release]
I don't have any issues with the 64px texture pack on my Windows 7 based laptop, and it only has 4GB RAM and 1GB video RAM.
Try that set for a while and see if you still get issues, also another thing I do is that I run Minetest with Game Booster.
Game Booster is free software you can get that shuts down unnecessary programs to free up system resources for running games, you can even configure it to keep certain things running if you need them.

Re: HDX Textures (16 - 512 px) [git rolling release]
Vanessa how do you use the inventory background images in your texture packs?
They dont seem to load on their own; Do I need a specific mod to utilize them?
I have tried moving them to textures/pack/base and even into the game/mods/default/textures
folders but it still doesnt work.
They look really cool.

It depends on whether the game you are using adds its own custom background images or not. Mintest game does add its own background images, so it is texturable.Napiophelios wrote:Vanessa how do you use the inventory background images in your texture packs?

Yeah I picked up on that ,but I was lookin for the "how" part.Evergreen wrote: It depends on whether the game you are using adds its own custom background images or not. Mintest game does add its own background images, so it is texturable.
and dont be confused,I am not asking about the 'game' background and logo images she includes....
I am refering to the background images for player inventory, furnace inventory, and chest inventory
They look like Hubble images and are very nice.
Thanks anyways Evergreen ;)

Indeed those are HST pictures. They're used by the formspecs in some of Dreambuilder's mods. What's the filename that minetest_game uses for its background images? I could include/copy something for those also.

Re: HDX Textures (16 - 512 px) [git rolling release]
well for the default inventory background you name your custom image to ".\games\minetest_game\mods\default\textures\gui_formbg.png"
I havent figured out the others :(
3-D armor background is ".\games\minetest_game\mods\3d_armor\textures\3d_armor_ui_form.png"

Re: HDX Textures (16 - 512 px) [git rolling release]
VanessaE, do you plan to add skybox textures to this? Since this is an HD texture pack, an HD sky would fit well.

Re: HDX Textures (16 - 512 px) [git rolling release]
At some point I might, but that also depends on there being some sort of "standard" mod that enables them. I've not followed that too closely so I'm not sure what's available in that department.
Also, someone will have to explain to me just how the hell they work, too. :-)

Re: HDX Textures (16 - 512 px) [git rolling release]
A skybox is literally a cube with sides that are enormously far away which forms the sky, and in which the you and your Minetest world are placed. If you fly up high enough so that you can no longer see any land and then look down, you can still see a slightly darker square below you. That's the bottom of the skybox.
There is no "default" set of textures that the skybox can take - you have to use a mod to set its properties, and no such mod is included with the engine or the standard game - so it just transitions in software between blue in the day and black-with-simulated-stars at night. That's why HDX doesn't have any textures for it yet.

Very impressive work ! Now 3406 textures ! How can you make such an amount of pictures ?
This texture pack with Dreambuilder really shows the potential of the game.

I've been working on the pack for the past two years, just adding to it, refining things, etc as time permits. As one character in one of our movies said in response to a similar question, "I have a tiny talent and an enormous amount of free time." :-)

I finally fixed that issue with the wieldhand. Sorry that took so long to get around to.

Not really, not without turning it into what amounts to a plain, solid color.

Re: HDX Textures (16 - 512 px) [git rolling release]
Another minor update: a bug was fixed in current development builds of Minetest that originally caused plants with a visual_scale of larger than 1.0 to "sink into" the ground (and less than 1.0 caused them to float).
This update removes the empty space/padding from some images which was added to account for that bug. Other images that need similar treatment will follow some time later on.

Re: HDX Textures (16 - 512 px) [git rolling release]
VanessaE,
I'm a recent convert from the minecraft community. I've been playing your Dreambuilder mod with a degree of enthusiasm, but feel it is lacking without a good texture pack. I tried yours here and I love it, I SHOULD have the ability to run it in quite high resolutions, but if I even so much as touch the normal maps it crashes within 5 seconds (usually less than 2) with an "out of memory" error in the console. This is the server that's reporting it's out of memory, not the graphics.
I have 24GBs of ram, a core i7 990x six core processor, and a Radeon R9 290x GPU with 4GBs of vram. What could be causing this? It's never exceeded 10GBs of ram consumed when it crashes, which while large, should be no issue for me.
Here is a log: I'm using the "full res" of both packs here to produce the problem quickly. For reference, the most I have ever been able to get to run for any meaningful amount of time is 32x32 without normal maps:
I am using vanilla 64-bit release (with your subgame obviously).

Re: HDX Textures (16 - 512 px) [git rolling release]
This may be an issue with the AMD Radeon drivers latest release. They are pretty notorious for breaking OpenGL games. Plus, I just had a similar crash on vanilla textures.

Re: HDX Textures (16 - 512 px) [git rolling release]
What version or build of Minetest is this? 0.4.11-release, or a git development build? Can you produce a backtrace of the crash using a debugger, by chance?
