Vanessa's C64/8-bit texture packs

These texture packs are intended to create an atmosphere that reminds the player of what things were like in the 8-bit world. As the title suggests, these were drawn to emulate the way the game might look on a Commodore 64, using what is known as Pepto's palette (but with much higher saturation and a bit higher brightness, to better represent what a C64 monitor might show). The nostalgic look has its limits, owing to the much higher resolution that Minetest runs at, but I think this works well.

This pack supports the standard/distribution stuff found in v0.4, 2012-04-08 and up, all of that which is/was present in v0.3 (though some filenames may be different), and a bunch mods! It should also work with other branches/forks of Minetest, as long as the texture filenames haven't been changed.

416 images in the 16px size and counting!

FUCK ME. This makes me feel at home, you did this pack really well. Now, try wool.

EDIT: The glass on the second image is messed up - what's the cause?

It's not messed up, that's just the way game rendered it at the moment I took the screenshot, probably because there are additional glass blocks next to it that are off-camera.

Very nice Vanessa! Paid for my first C64 out of my paper route money back in the day and this brings back memories.

Really nice!
But the Dirt is a bit dark

sfan: that's an artifact of the color constraints in place - the C64 doesn't have a color that's midway between brown and black, and it didn't seem to look right when I first tried to base the dirt on brown. I may revise it later, though. This texture pack is far from complete :-)

Update me!

It was just part of the map, which was first generated under 0.3.1. I don't have that map anymore, though, or even the seed that made it.

Obsidian was added. Check the commit to see the others that are added.

I'm not updating this texture pack anymore, but if others want to contribute textures to it, I'll happily include them, provided they follow the standard Commodore 64 color palette and placement constraints.

vanessa do u have the the texture pack from dan's realist server

This is not the topic for the Realtest game nor for my server based on it. Please post in the appropriate topic in the future. No, there's no specific texture pack for Realtest, each of the mods that come as a part of it supplies its own custom textures.

This project has been moved to GitLab, in response to Microsoft's purchase of GitHub.
