Custome Sounds for Minetest Game! MC Sounds to MT

by Enrikoo » Post

If MT sounds are boring you can use MC sounds, this is much cooler than minetest sounds. If you added MC sounds to minetest_game, then test your sounds if this works then you have MC sound in MT. If this is little bit too quiet. I can't change this.

Are you complying with the license of MC sounds?

I don't have license, i just could move them to minetest_game and rename it how it was.

You might not have a license, but they sure do.

You really need to start learning about licenses.

It will be better for you, and better for this community.

When you wish to use textures, or sounds, etc., from any other source (like Minecraft), for the most part it is fine if you just do it for your own use.
But, when you start sharing these things here, (or elsewhere) you have to know the license of the original work.

You cannot simply rename someone else's work and upload it to share n the web.

Take some time to read the license for any and everything you wish to share here, which is not your own work.

Can you tell me the link or something to look for all licenses?
You can use sounds like textures?

Just like textures, when someone, or a company, or whoever, creates sounds for their game, or whatever else, they will add a license to the work, when they wish to share it, etc.

I understand (by your profile) that you may be young, and it is great that you want to share things here, such as textures, sounds, etc., but if you are going to do this, then it is up to you to make sure you have read and understand the terms of the license, the creator placed on it.
Being young, and possibly not knowing better, has proven to be unaccepted as an excuse regarding license violations.

The textures you shared in another post, and these sound files, it falls upon you to read and understand the terms of the license attached to those works.
Some will say you can make changes and share it, but you have to give credit to the original artist, etc.
Some do not allow you to make any changes, or to share to the public, etc.

The same goes for sounds, or any other artistic medium, and code, across the board.

I strongly suggest you remove links to any public shared files (including this one), until you know the terms of those works.

If you are unsure about the license or terms of use..., send a message to the original artist (like on MC forums), and wait for their answer.

You should assume that any default textures, sounds, models, code, etc., from Minecraft itself, you are not allowed to share publicly or to rename and post anywhere to share with others...

If you are interested in sharing and creating things, you should start off right by learning about licensing.
It will benefit you in the end

If you take work such as this (I have not looked at these sound files, it is not my job) and you are in violation of the terms/license, it can cause problems for you, and this community if it is allowed to remain published for sharing.

The least of which, can result in giving a bad name and reputation to all concerned, as people who steal other people's work, etc..

If you do not understand the terms of use, or cannot find a license, as I said, contact the original author and wait for a reply.
If that gets no results after a bit (like a few weeks), ask an adult at home for help. Or, you can post the link to where you got the files from (or explain where you got the from), and someone will probably let you know whether you can or cannot post a link to them like this, and attempt to help you understand why.

Not here to discourage, just here to help.

Sounds, fall under the same category as textures. They are both considered media, or assets.

People who create textures, sounds, other media for games, etc., will normally add a license or terms related to use of their work.

Even if these sounds are given a CC0 type license (or any other "free to use") terms, It is a common courtesy to at least make a mention (possibly with a link to where it was found)

My biggest point here, to you, is to be very careful when you are sharing any sounds, textures, etc. which you may find on the web, to be sure you are not violating the license and/or terms of use of the material.

Not sure what you mean here. If you did not "mix", "create", "make" etc. these sounds, you should either:
a- find out which license they use, or read their "terms of use" and apply those or,
b- mention they are not "your" work, and possibly add links to where you found them.

You cannot simply take sounds, someone else made and put your own license to them.
You must apply the same license, which they come with... simple as that.

Let me try to explain this way.

Let's say that you found a sound on freesound.org, and you want to use it in Minetest Game, or share it with this community.
When you are looking at the web page, you will see a license reference (circled in red in the image below)
Image

When you click on the link: which says "This work is licensed under the Attribution license", it brings you to this page
https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
which describes what you need to do, if you wish to use or share this sound file
It will tell you, in this case, that you are free to:
Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material
for any purpose, even commercially.
As long as you do:
Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.

No additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.

*Every single sound, or texture you find on the web, will most likely have some sort of license, or terms of use/share, which need to be followed.

Thanks TumeniNodes! Let's try that. I hope this is helpful for the community.

Is this the best website uploading sound and make a license?

Today i haven't any times to do it, tomorrow is the best time.

Does it do sounds if i selected the right license and use the texture pack?

You might not have a license, but they sure do.

You really need to start learning about licenses.
Seems like Minecraft/Mojang has to learn about license if they use free sources

I suspect they stopped caring about providing sources and attribution, when MS took over, to be fully honest.
The time frame for when they "disappeared" (according to the video) sounds about right, in relation to the acquisition.
MS has never cared much for giving proper credit for aspects taken from others.
