Any chance we can get an updated RC candidate?

I understand there have been bug fixes since RC1, and I'd like to run some tests with those changes.

Thanks in advance!

Did you fix the yawsprite not working with shaders on, and Meshes rendering in fulbright? (For android)

Is it safe to overwrite my existing Minetest installation (official build from the site) with these? Or do I have to install it separately due to incompatibilities/is the same thing as the official version?

These versions are not as as stable as release versions. They may contain incompatibilities, but often don't. You basically have to read the changelogs to find out. Mostly Minetest adds deprecations and new features and tries not to break things, but there are some backwards-incompatible changes like the move from zlib to zstd mapblock compression.

In general I would always recommend keeping a separate installation, and probably copy your worlds over but keep the old ones just in case. I would also say that unless you know what features you're after in these builds, you're safer staying on a stable version. On the flipside, if you aren't particularly attached to some of the your worlds, you might help find a bug that was added to Minetest by using one of these builds, so it's caught before release. You can also check what's missing from the next stable release on GitHub under milestones. There might be issues mentioned there that you want to avoid until they're fixed.

not sure if this is the correct place to put this:

the spelling for default:sandstonebrick is not consistent with the other related block names. it doesn't have an uderscore like the rest. my for loops are not happy about this. is there a reason why sans underscore?

default:sandstone
default:sandstonebrick
default:sandstone_block

default:desert_sandstone
default:desert_sandstone_brick
default:desert_sandstone_block

default:silver_sandstone

It should go in Game Discussion since it relates only to Minetest Game. Also it hasn't changed recently in Minetest hence not relevant to "Builds".

Basically, historic reasons. There is a convention now (ref), but there wasn't at the beginning. Combined word form was used before the convention was established. So sorry, but it looks like for Minetest Game you'll have to use full lists instead of loops.

Does this version include the godrays and autoexp? I want my minetest to be pretty so that I can attract players with my youtube series on the game.

Auto-exposure and bloom is already in 5.7. Volumetric lighting on the other hand is still in a branch in x2048's repository - volumetric_light. I don't know of any available builds for that, sorry.

Personally I think with sharp dynamic shadows, high game resolution and fog turned on, the effect is already pretty nice - e.g. this screenshot of mine. Also the hardware requirements are high enough that if you wanted to throw all the shaders at it, you'd have a hard time playing with a decent draw distance and framerate.

Got it, not merged yet. Also don't worry, I have RTX 3080 (kinda dated with 40xx on the market and 50xx around the corner, but something tells me it's good enough to play Minetest with shaders).

On a more positive note, I really like what you did with the settings menu. Hopefully that empty "Settings" tab with just "open settings" button is just a stop gap and opening settings will be more seamless in the future.
