Little spots of darkness...help!

by Danfun64 » Thu Jan 15, 2015 19:58

I am having trouble with either a mod or a combination of mods, but I can't figure out which mod it is. When I generate a level with all of these turned on, small areas of unlight are generated around the map. When I walk into one of these areas, the sun is blotted out, as if I was in a cave or looking down and back up again. I am sure a mod is responsible for this. Can you guys find out which one it is?

Wow those are pretty intense! I was noting much lighter blotches while flying around a new map with no mods. They were somewhat triangular and not nearly as black as yours. I was wondering if it was my hardware as I've been overclocking lately and was questioning machine stability.

I haven't seen the black skies before but as for patches of shadow on the landscape when there is nothing above to cast them - that's an old rendering glitch that happens even in vanilla.

Here are two approaches to correcting the land shadows that I've used.

The Easy Way
Use WorldEdit to set //pos1 away and well below the shadow area and //pos2 away and well above the shadow area, then use: //replace air air
That will cause Minetest to recalculate the lighting of the area inside WorldEdit's marked positions.

The Hard Way
If you don't have WorldEdit or the privs to use it, then place a default sapling with two torches on either side at what appears to be the darkest part of the shadow. When the sapling grows into a tree it will force Minetest to recalculate the lighting. If that doesn't work it means the shadow's "center" is higher than the tree. In that case, build a vertical, 1x1 column of dirt until sunlight appears on top of the dirt block. When that happens, dig down three or four dirt blocks and place a sapling and torches and wait for the tree to grow.

I tried the easy way, and it seemed to do nothing.

Wow, this seems to be a serious bug. Has it been reported on GitHub?
