Mesecons Wireblocks

Hi,
Mesecons are, among many things, nice for putting switchable lights or similar in your creations.
Unfortunately when it comes to wiring mesecons wires are not very suitable because they seem to have been built for a 2D environment.

Initial idea: Wireblocks
So why use this small flat wire-things and not an entire block? A block would make it much easier to build more aesthetic and also to reach the actors (lights, pistons etc.) more efficiently.

A wireblock would have two to six outlets which look like the end of a wire. Let's call them wiredots (see attachment for an example, wires in concrete).

There would be eight different wireblocks which can be turned any way:
- 2 with 2 wiredots: one on opposite sides, one on butting edges
- 2 with 3 wiredots: one like a t-junction, one with three butting edges
- 2 with 4 wiredots: one with insulated opposite sides, one with insulated butting sides
- 1 with 5 wiredots
- 1 with 6 wiredots

All wiredots within a block are conntected. This gives you the opportunity to wire lights an other actors any way you want in 3D. With the closed sides (insulated, without wiredots) you can use the block in many different ways to reach only those actors you want to reach.

Mesecon blocks could be directly attached to wireblocks. With the switches and lights, this will probably look better in context.


Going further: More Wireblocks
Like moreblocks made new blocks out of default blocks, there could be wires within default materials.
Imagine the 7 wireblocks (you won't need the one with six wiredots) made from different materials.
You could build a one block thick ceiling made out of wood wireblocks with wiredots only at those places where you want to attach a light. The wireblock could then go through a one block thick wall where they end with a visible wiredot where you then attack a swith for the lights.


And even further: Changing Mesecons
When I came up with this idea, it was adding new blocks to mesecons. While thinking about it I could find no reason why mesecon blocks are flat.
A lua controller could as easily be a block. The outlets could be the four sides showing wiredots which are annotated with A, B, C and D (there then could be an E at the bottom ;-)
All the gates could have wiredots on the sides annotated with IN and OUT, so it would be more clear where to attach the wireblocks.
...

Downside:
I can think of two at the moment:
- The wires are not visible, so you can't see where they go. But then, that's just the point of it. And of course wireblock don't glow.
- In case of more_wireblocks you have to turn the blocks to work the way you want, which will also turn the textures of the insulated sides, which will make a plane of insulated wireblocks look uneven.


So, what do you think?
Unfortunately I'm not able to program this, but if someones willing to I would provide textures.

That's a good idea. I have also a one: a comparator. The same as in Minecraft.

What do you mean? You have multiple logic gates and an FPGA for making comparisons.

  • If you want to have a 6-sided version of the luacontroller, you could try the lua-controlled tube in pipeworks.
  • If you want to have full-cube nodes, you could use mese blocks.
  • Btw. there were also wall-attached mesecon wires for an old version. But as they were too complex, they were not integrated. (See https://github.com/minetest-mods/mesecons/issues/128).
  • Giving conductors the look of different materials needs many nodes, which can be problematic.

@Miniontoby: What is that thing? Do not expect others to know details of another game. If you are requesting something like this, describe what it should do.

Thanks for the tip, DS-minetest, I just tested it and already swapped a lot of the original mesecon wires.
With the insulation you can do wirings you couldn't do before and with the insulation colours you can make the wires less noticeable. Very nice indeed.

Probably a Humanity Mod with lots of ethnic groups and a built in encyclopedia. People in Humanity mod speaks in their national language (for example: Turkish people speaks in Turkish, Americans speak in English, etc) I created a lot of skins to use as the human graphics in the mod.

here are my ideas: (sorry for my english)

better boats
the boat is realy boring... i want a new better mod that works like this:
-the boat has two sculls
-if you press the left key, then you turn the left scull
-if you press the right key, then you turn the right scull
-you can accelerate with the mouse
-if you hold forward, you can look around without loosing your direction
-if you hold backward, all contol is reversed
and now the "not so important" stuff:
-if you shift+rightclick to a boat with a chest in hand, it will change to a boat_with_chest
-you can not sit in a boat_with_chest
-you can connect them with rope to make a i dont know how it called because im bad at english
-all boat_with_chest that is connected to a normal boat, follows the normal boat
-and of course you can open the boat_with_chest like a normal chest

fishes
not only the boat is boring but the ocean is also boring... it needs some fishes like this:
-the fish moves all six direction randomly
-you can cath them with the net by right clicking it
-they dont swim through walls like other fishes do from other mods :D
-fishes have different sizes
-the mod also adds whales that spawn in deep ocean

realistic water
As we talk about the ocean, the water is also one problem. I made some rules for a better water:
-The water dont have flowing water, it only has source.
-Every source has 16 different states. Source with state two = sorce with two pixel height (The word state is maybe not appropriate)
-each source follows these rules in order:
1. If there is air below the source, it then drops down one block.
2. If a source has more than one stage, then it split out equaly to all the avalible space around it
3. If a source has an another source around it, then they share their water and equal each other stages
4. If a source has only one stage, then it moves randomly
If a source does anything from up above, then it starts a three minute timer
When the timer runs out, then the source does one of these in every second:
1. Remove one stage if there is no source around it with bigger/equal number of stages
2. Stop the timer if the source have nothing to do from up above

Hey, if someone can code it, I can and will help with the textures. all I need is a rough description of what you want and I should be able to do it. but be warned, I am new to GIMP.

i know about that mod. But my idea is a little bit more realistic.

The problem is that we need new models for the boat and for the fish. And the realistic water already have all the textures.

I thought that we could try something like nemo, for the fishes, the vehicles mod has a boat, but it could be better.
anyway, last night I tried this little texture, for a fish, but the background color must be changed.

The fish texture doasent looks bad.
And i cant help you with explaining how the models work because i dont know it either.

This is a great idea! That would be awesome if the fish is not and entity.
And you can make some cute cubic fish (with all the six sides).
The fish could be a block that teleports in the water instead of moving like an entity.

Unlike Minecraft, nodes cannot be in other nodes so there will be a visible air bubble around the fish if it is not shaped like a whole node.

I tried to make the top view of a cubical boat. but it is in 32*32. can i use both 16*16 and 32*32 at the same time?

Yes, you can mix textures as you like.

I have thinked about a normal wooden boat just with different controls... but if we make a motor boat then it looks really nice :D

multi speed, fuel weight, multiseater(for servers) , realistic rudders, oars etc?
and for the textures, what colors would you like, something like #966F33 or something darker/lighter?

Just like the default raft with two oars which is going to control the boat. And the color is realy nice, but you can change it just a little bit if you like :D.
