NotePad++ and GIMP. Besides, MS Paint can't use alpha. And I regret sticking with LuaEdit for so long before trying NotePad++.

Re: how to make mods?
This is pixel art, not photos.
I don't recommend you buy photoshop for this, but you can still use it of you have it. I use gimp. I prefer it to Photoshop.
Also, the Node Box Editor is handy, but you don't need it: you could code boxes by hand.

Re: how to make mods?
Most professionals and experts I have spoken to (or read) seem to agree that Photoshop has more advanced features than Gimp. I haven't come anywhere near to figuring out how to use all of the advanced features in Gimp. So paying for Photoshop would be a complete waste of my money. Like purchasing a high powered desktop computer to play minesweeper.

You are making pixel art, not advertisement posters.

Re: how to make mods?
Gimp likes to crash on me like every five minutes when I tried it on Windows. For Linux, there is no beating Gimp though, yet. I love Photoshop, though even for pixel art, it is fast, and has never crashed yet, and I've been using it for over a decade.Kilarin wrote:Most professionals and experts I have spoken to (or read) seem to agree that Photoshop has more advanced features than Gimp. I also can not stand Blender, it pisses me off so much. What takes me an hour in 3DS Max (Also free for anything but rendering. You can get the student edition for free here. http://www.autodesk.com/education/free- ... 12/popular) takes me eight in Blender!
I hope someone makes a B3D exporter for 3DS Max, I would be so happy. As it is I model and UV map it in Max then import that into Blender.

Re: how to make mods?
Someone said Photoshop, so I must say what I'm planning to use: krita and either pluma or geany. Blender too.
Windows: Notepad++ and either krita or gimp, maybe blender, although you can use freecad instead of blender.
GNU/Linux: Your desktop environment's plaintext editor and either krita or gimp, maybe blender, or freecad instad.

Loose: Not firmly or stuck in place. (ex: I have a loose tooth.)
Lose: To fail to win a game or contest. (ex: If I lose at Minetest, my stuff will disappear!)
Now that you know, use them properly!

Ironically, Blender users are usually at the top of speed modeling competitions.LanceJZ wrote: What takes me an hour in 3DS Max takes me eight in Blender!
