Will Minetest ever support Minecraft's 1.8 skin templates?

MT skins already support hats, although maybe they work differently, so perhaps armor skins aren't an option. But it would be great if they were in. Honestly, I'd like them to be implemented, if only to remove the hassle of having to edit a MC 1.8 skin you want to use in MT. Plus, it would open up some creative options for skins.

I don't really know if such a thing would be possible, or if this has been disconfirmed in the past. If it isn't and/or it has, then I'm sorry for this topic.

Also, sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Is it possible to get that as a stand alone mod?

Because i don't want to create another topic, I'll ask this here, too. Don't worry, it's related.

Would high-res skins be a possibility? High-res textures exist, but don't know.

High-res skins(64x,128x,etc.), as far as I know, they are supported. The only issue with skins is that you cant make semi-transparent textures, something like a semi-transparent visors are not possible.

I'll experiment with skins.

Of course, you can. The only thing is the ratio between width and height. That's what differ from old Minecraft's skin with the new one.

I think it'd be good to redo the player model altogether, and use overlapping animations to create head movement, along with a cube and 3d_armor style wield mesh used with an in engine texture.

Supporting the extra layers wouldn't be a bad idea, as of now capes go through armor.

However, perhaps MT should go its own way?

Also, capes should be improved, they don't look very good as of now.
