Just a simple question.
With some other new nodes introduced in the last release..., I am wondering why, to date, no one has ever thought of (or maybe it has been thought/discussed in past) adding an iron block?
It is the only ore which does not come with a _block node. (well, it comes with a steel block)
And recipes could be changed/added to accommodate,
Iron Block could be made as Steel Block is currently, and a Steel Block would require iron with another material.
Just wondering if there might be a chance having iron_block added to Minetest Game?
http://www.differencebetween.net/object ... and-steel/ (<- just some dumb ref. to look smart ) :P

Well, actually, steel = iron + carbon (coal). But steel is made just from iron lump. Apparently, game developers do not know the basics of chemistry.

Technic mod is much more realistic, Minetest Game only provides the basic stuff so its playable.Sergey wrote:Well, actually, steel = iron + carbon (coal). But steel is made just from iron lump. Apparently, game developers do not know the basics of chemistry.

Re: Why no iron block?
I'm certain the devs are not ignorant to how steel is made.
My only reason for asking is that, I have found it odd that it was never included with the metal blocks.
But a new recipe could be iron lumps along the outside squares, and for steel simply add a coal lump to the center.
I don't know, it's really not a huge deal, I was just curious.
I added it to my own personal version so... :P
But, the technic mod replaces the steel_block, with a stainless steel block (which I personally found annoying)
It should have "added" stainless steel, rather than overriding steel.
I personally don't care for mods which override, take away, replace, when the more logical approach of a mod is to "add" features.
I feel the same way about texture packs... I don't see the sense in using, say some random texture which is not even related to stonebrick, to replace stonebrick..., why not just create a mod to add new nodes for the new/different texture? : /
I have seen this done throughout games over the years and just makes zero sense.

No, steel is replaced by wrought iron, which has perfect sense.
As for the steel, it is found as carbon steel and stainless steel.
Though I do agree with you about the rest :)

Re: Why no iron block?
I am sure you're correct.
I just remember it replaced steel, and it was a while back :P
if it is wrought iron, then yes, it makes more sense
But I missed my steel_blocks and it made some of my builds look wonky
and bronze_block should be made using copper and another material (such as tin) which I think is being added :P

I'm curious about why "adding" is in quotation marks. Is there a limitation on adding features to MineTest via modding?TumeniNodes wrote:
