Advanced Furnace Idea

by TheGreatCoffeeKing99 » Post

Basically, a furnace would not only require fuel but also a "fire" inside it.
After all, in real life just throwing some coal and some meat into a cobble furnace is not going to do
anything-- until you light the fire.
The fire would deplete separately, and would instantly deplete once there is no more fuel left.
Both fuel and fire would have to be present to smelt.

You can light the furnace with a craftable "bow and drill" or "flint and steel".
Bow and drill wears out after one use.

That's it. I would make the game harder but more immersive and realistic.
Got to go.

This would be an interesting game mechanic, and would add an additional degree of challenge. The main drawback I foresee is new players cannot craft flint and steel without a steel ingot. And that requires a furnace. The bow and drill is an interesting concept, but from what readily available materials would it be crafted?

To me, this would just add more frustrating game play as it increases crafting complexity to achieve nothing new.

This is a really good idea. If no one has made it yet, I may modify the furnace to include this idea in a game I am working on.

Bows and drills are made of sticks and string/rope.
