The biomes in v7 are large and I'm looking for some specific ones on my map, which I have the seed for. Is there a tool that lets you scroll around a 2d map of the biomes without Minetest generating/saving the chunks?
Similar to what Amidst does for Minecraft.
(I have looked, but I might not be using the best search terms. My understanding of minetestmapper is it only draws what's already in a map)
Is there a biome-map viewer for Minetest (like Amidst)?

I would also like to see that in the future, something like a program that generates the whole 2d map of your world, just like minetestmapper, but the whole thing.
sofar, paramat, is there a way to do so?

Meet LOTH, a new Lord-of-the-Rings MT Subgame :
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18666
It just has what you were searching for : A world-wide biome map. BTW, you are the blue cross, and the red dots indicate your viewing direction.
I am sure you can figure out how to apply this for MTG's basic biomes.
Else I'd suggest you to contact the LOTH developer KGM.

You can determine the biomes by applying a similar noise than MTs one.CrayZ wrote:I would also like to see that in the future, something like a program that generates the whole 2d map of your world, just like minetestmapper, but the whole thing.

Also, it would be possible to create an average 2d map of the area by using the same noise as MT again.
But terrain is just created on visit, so it doesn't exist before.
And it would take FAR too long to create the WHOLE world at world creation...

Nice! That's what I'm talking about.LMD wrote:Meet LOTH, a new Lord-of-the-Rings MT Subgame :

I got this hair-brained idea after posting that question that I could actually fix it myself and add Minetest into Amidst, which is what I'm currently doing. I thought the ability for a tool like Amidst to do Minetest could also increase awareness of Minetest, but now that I'm deep inside the guts of Amidst, I see there's so much of it that needs refactoring in order to be able to accommodate multiple different game engines that I probably won't push for having the changes incorporated into Minecraft's Amidst, we can just have our own version that's able to support Minetest/both.

It's possible to write a mod that does this, it would use the noise parameters from mgv7 to determine what is water and what is land, then use the heat / humidity noises to determine the biomes.
It could work by actually generating a map in a world to a certain scale, then you could just multiply your co-ordinates by the scale to get the actual co-ordinates.
I did something similar for my watershed lua mapgen, an actual 3D map at 1:16 scale, see 2nd screenshot here viewtopic.php?f=11&t=8609

Would it be possble to rip out the biome viewer from LOTH and release it as standalone mod (in addition to LOTH, of course)?
