I have this idea for a server that's a 20000x20000 or 30000x30000 map of Europe, users go around drawing the borders of each nation the way the want them to be, and other users can join that nation and build/mine stuff in it. Basically just regular Minetest but more country-based.
But what I'm wondering is if it's actually possible, like maybe create something that scans an image, which turns black spots into land and white spots into water, and have 1 pixel be 1 block.
Is it possible to convert a huge image into a MT map?

In case you didn't know, the minetest world itself is only 62,000x62,000x62,000; so no, its not possible.
EDIT: nvm, i for some reason thought you were talking in the hundred-thousands.

I worked on something similar, to make a map from raw geographical data: geo-mapgen
It requires an elevation image (usually GeoTiff format)

Just realize how bored we would be if the world was perfect.
