Left-handed wielding?

I was wondering if it's possible to change the hand used for wielding etc. to be the left hand?
I've not found any settings for it, or anything in the lua api docs that would allow a mod to do it. I've tried searching the forums, but can't find any related discussion.

If it's not currently possible at all, is there any chance of such a feature being considered in the future?
