What features do you most associate with Minetest?

For example, some of Minecraft's most recognizable features include (but are not limited to) creepers, the Nether, and Steve. In Minetest, the features I associate most with it are mese, oerkkis, dungeon masters, rats, and dungeons.
Currently working on new mods.

An extremely barren default "game" that can be modded very well.

It's nice that to an extent everyone at least knows of eachother, unlike in other forums like Minec***t where three people are known by everyone and the rest are just 'the masses'

To extend this statement: nodeboxes. I don't think I know of any easier methods by which someone can create 3d objects.

* Using stacks of sand to get down to the floor of enormous caverns a hundred or more blocks tall and thousands of blocks across horizontally.

* Building a powered minecart rail down to 4100 blocks below sea level, so you can find the most ores.

* Blueberries. I swear, these are the easiest way to obtain and carry around the ability to restore hitpoints every time you carelessly fall off a ledge.

Well let me start off with my old favorite game: Minecraft.

What I associate with Minecraft is that:
  • Beta 1.3 was 50MB
  • Was closed sourced
  • Took 10-30 seconds to load
  • Was heavy
  • Ran like poop on my old computer
  • Had an extremely difficult to understand external user-made api which was technically illegal to use since it contained and modified Minecraft's source code
  • Minecraft uses a ton of sounds from freesound under the attribution license and you cannot find the attributions anywhere in the game's code
  • The mantra of Minecraft from a legal aspect is pretty much "here is the game, you can't change it"
  • Microsoft now owns and ruins Minecraft even more by making it 500+MB of severely optimized code which takes 1-3 minutes to load into the unmodded game
  • Modded versions of Minecraft can take up to 10 minutes before the main menu even shows up
AND

The features I most associate with Minetest are:
  • Libre and Open
  • Fast and clean
  • Easy to program (even though some of the api [formspec] doesn't throw exceptions and just crashes)
  • Lightweight
  • Can run at 500+ FPS on my pc
  • I can literally do whatever I want. Ban singleplayer when they spawn into a world, bricking it? You can do it if you really want to
  • Modularity - You can externally process data using lua and then tell the api what to do with the calculated data
  • Good community
  • Good mantra
  • I can literally say "hi" to the developers of the game and bring up problems directly
  • The fact that I can see literally anything that is going on at any given moment in the game's code even if I do not understand it
  • Minetest is an engine and it runs games - You want doom? Download or make a doom game and drop it in. You want a puzzle game? Go get or make one and drop it in.
  • Importantly - I can understand what a mod is doing by glancing over it's code before it's translated and compiled into the engine
I love that Minetest is literally the opposite. Open and free. It is an excellent platform for developers that love Minecraft style voxel games and it is certainly my favorite game engine.

Insanely efficient and customizable particle systems. Just found out that my mashed potato computer can run thousands of particles with no perf change.

  • Free and open source.
  • The base game runs really well and the engine takes basically no time at all to start.
  • Painless drop-into-a-server-with-mods multiplayer.
  • Mese, mesecons and digilines.
  • Burst pneumatic tubes.
  • Bugs that you can just fix yourself.
  • Having to fix bugs yourself.
  • All of the trains, everywhere, all the time, causing lag, and me making more of them.
