sandstone-bricks are too expensive

by rubberduck » Post

a sandblock brick needs 16 sand, because you need 4 sandstones for this.
you need 4 sand for every sandstone too.

with a whole diamond-shovel i got 51 sandstone-bricks,
it even isn't a whole stack.

a sandstone should be made out of two sand.

another idea to change the recipe is tho make 2 or 4 sandstone-bricks out of 4 sandstones.

maybe change: sand --> sandstone to a 1:1 or 4:4 recipe
sandstone --> sandstone brick 4:1 (no change)

I don't like too much cooking. I think the current crafting is already nice, but a better balancing/output would be nicer.

A less expensive sandstonebrick receipe would be great. It did annoy me a lot when I was building two rather tiny houses. It's not so much the effort of gathering sand as such - it's rather the problem of destroying the landscape while doing so. Servers which have technic installed of course do not have this problem.

There are also some nicer textures which look very similar to the sandstonebrick texture but are slightly diffrent in detail. The bright texture sdzen used on his server for desert stone comes to mind. Plus the texture used by darkage.

4 sand could give 2 sandstone and 4 sandstone could give 2 sandstone bricks.

I'd suggest adding a chisel, allowing you to make stone brick from one stone, however, the chisel will take damage from crafting.

The darkage sandstone cobble texture can for example be seen on Krocks server. The other nice sandstone brick texture was used by sdzen on his server. I hope he'll make it available.

Sounds fine. That way, a new tool could be introduced that's not the 1000st pick/axe/shovel. Realtest already has a chisel, and that one works fine.

At least this is implemented in minetest_next, which also holds other improvements.
