Suddenly: black hole in landscape
Suddenly: black hole in landscape
Running a singleplayer-game newly made for minetest 0.4.15.
After a few days, I found this new 'black hole' in the countryside just outside my front door:
It looks like a big shadow, but there is nothing that could cause this.
The only notable mod I'm running there is ltools - that tree at the edge of the hole
is an l-system-tree.

Re: Suddenly: black hole in landscape
Mine a block at the shadow and the shadow will disappear.(I noticed than once in the dwarves subgame to, but I forgot it till now)
This is a cool signature. :)
Re: Suddenly: black hole in landscape
I have already tried that, and also cut down that tree, but the shadow remains.LRV wrote:Mine a block at the shadow and the shadow will disappear.

Re: Suddenly: black hole in landscape
L-system trees will create shadow bugs when they grow if the mapblocks above it are unloaded. There is a fixing PR being considered right now.
Re: Suddenly: black hole in landscape
That fixed it, thanks !Linuxdirk wrote:Its a map loading issue that happens every now and then.

Re: Suddenly: black hole in landscape
Suddenly big shadow appeared on my field. Just in front of my house. I played in this world and in this area for a long time, and everything (lighting) was OK till now.
It happened after pine sapling grows into tree outside the building when I was inside it.
View from roof of my building. There is nothing above, just clean sky.

Re: Suddenly: black hole in landscape
Placing torch and removing it does not help.
Digging block and placing it back does not help.
Cutting the tree does not help.
Restarting the game does not help.
The shadow is persistent.
Please help.

Re: Suddenly: black hole in landscape
Many thanks to author of Map Fixer mod. This mod helps me.
As newbie I read what mod generally is, how to install it, enable it, and use it (particularly mentioned mod).
I think algorithms that causes light bugs must be fixed in game itself, not relying on crutches that community make.

Re: Suddenly: black hole in landscape
There is a PR being reviewed now that should fix shadows caused by saplings growing.

In latest 0.4.15dev?

0.4.15 from official Manjaro repo, not 0.4.15dev.paramat wrote:There is a PR being reviewed now that should fix shadows caused by saplings growing.

Re: Suddenly: black hole in landscape
Interesting situation.
I have time_speed=0 and time set to /time 12:00.
Well, I don't like night time.
In my house I have a basement which is below sea level. Its walls I made of glass to admire sea/lake bottom. On ceiling in basement there are many torches to highlight basement. Sea bottom is highlighted by sunlight. Now I decided to turn night on (/time 0:00) to see how basement looks from underwater at night. And it turns out that it was very dark. I can't believe it! So many torches on the ceiling but dark floor! While in daytime everything was OK. Is sunlight so influential/powerful compared to torch light? I went to basement, executed /mapfix and… everything around me became lit with bright light! Exactly!
So poor light processing in the game itself!
Advise: turn night on and launch /mapfix to reveal illumination bugs that may be not so noticeable in daytime.

Re: Suddenly: black hole in landscape
Map block is either loaded or not. It can not be partially loaded with strange shadows as a result of it.Andrey01 wrote:Maybe is this unloading place?Map loads very slowly in MineTest

Re: Suddenly: black hole in landscape
I've been using the remove_unknown mod to remove weird shadows. It doesn't show any unknown blocks removed but it removes the shadow weirdness. viewtopic.php?t=11259 Works almost everytime.
everything can be a learning experience...

Re: Suddenly: black hole in landscape
err I think I found a random solution I used to get a lot of this and I found by accident a firefly mod that I installed seems to remove random shadows like this I don't know why it worked it just does
https://github.com/4Evergreen4/insects
by the way due to too many bee mods in my game I removed the bee part of this mod so I just run fireflies
