how do i increase ram usage

hello i am trying to play the most recent stable version of minetest and it crashes saying it ran out of ram my computer has 24Gb of ram and the game crashes as soon as it hits 500MB of ram and id like to know were i go and how to increase the games ram allocation so i can play it
