Minetestserver on Raspi 2B

by the_bilbo » Sun Dec 22, 2019 09:19

Hallo zusammen,

Joerg

Hi,

since days I try to install a minetest server on a Raspberry Pi 2B. It works fine with version 0.4.16 but i can't install version 5. I tried it on Raspbian and ubuntu mate (18.04), via snap, apt and as direct compilation but without success. When I implement a new repository (minetestdevs) the installation abort by 30%. Is there another (step by step) way to install it?

thanks for your answer,
Joerg

The server is only for my private network, so no more than ~5 players will play at the same time.

Servus. Ich schreibe den Beitrag hier auf englisch, da dies der englischsprachige Teil des Forums ist.

The most robust solution is to compile it from the source on your RPI. This needs quite some free space on your drive.
1) Install the required packages (server build only)
Code: Select all
sudo apt install g++ make libc6-dev libirrlicht-dev cmake libbz2-dev libpng-dev libjpeg-dev libsqlite3-dev libcurl4-gnutls-dev zlib1g-dev libgmp-dev libjsoncpp-dev
Original source

2) Download/clone the Minetest repository (or use "git clone" to update Minetest much easier)
Code: Select all
mkdir ~/minetest_build
cd ~/minetest_build
wget https://github.com/minetest/minetest/archive/stable-5.tar.gz
tar xf stable-5.tar.gz
cd minetest-stable-5

3) Build Minetest
Code: Select all
cmake . -DBUILD_CLIENT=FALSE -DRUN_IN_PLACE=TRUE
make -j$(nproc)

4) Download minetest_game
Code: Select all
cd games/
wget https://github.com/minetest/minetest_game/archive/stable-5.tar.gz
tar xf stable-5.tar.gz
mv minetest_game-stable-5 minetest_game
cd ..

5) Run minetestserver (maybe copy a local world to the "worlds" directory)
Code: Select all
./bin/minetest --server --world myworldname
