Apparently there's an update for MTG. I went down this path:
Browse online content -> Games -> Minetest Game -> Update
And the result was: Failed to install minetest_game to /usr/share/minetest/games/minetest_game
This is most likely because of file access rights, with me running as some user, and the game being installed as root in /usr/share/. But why would MTG want to update from there, instead of getting an update through the package manager?

Re: Failed to install minetest_game
There isn't actually an update available, this is a bug in Minetest which will be fixed in 5.4.0

Thanks, good to know. :)
I noticed there has been quite a lot of work on 5.4.0. Is it close to release?

Re: Failed to install minetest_game
I encountered the same problem. I fixed it by deleting Minetest Game from "/usr/share/games/minetest/games" and installing it again using ContentDB. It is located now in "~/.minetest/games".
