v7 user here

This does not happen to me, and I generated quite a few maps, as I was testing ores, so I find this very odd.

You are missing the "biomes" flag in the map_meta.txt file. Note that it's the opposite of "nobiomes". The setting value should be similar to this:

Code: Select all

mg_flags = caves, dungeons, light, decorations, biomes
Also adjust your minetest.conf accordingly so that new maps are generated correctly. This flag is not exposed in the GUI to avoid issues like these.
Look, I programmed a bug for you. >> Mod Search Engine << - Mods by Krock - DuckDuckGo mod search bang: !mtmod <keyword here>

If I remove the nobiomes flag in a Minebase World, the map_meta.txt file simply gets overwriten and has the nobiomes flag again. (I closed Minetest, edited the file and opened Minetest again).
Then "Minebase" (a game?) is changing your global settings and causing them to be wrong for newly created worlds.
Report a bug to them.
